Well, the successful Republican National Convention Poll is finished up with 57 votes coming in! I needed a new poll and decided to throw together something a little less important but possibly attracting a similar rabid fan base: best Minnesota professional sports team.
Now, I probably missed something here being that I don’t watch much outside of baseball or football but I tried to get a fairly complete list. I thought about allowing multiple votes but that would ruin the count to compare against older polls. So, pick which one you like best and if you see fit, explain why. If I missed an option, pick something else and post what your choice would have been instead.

I chose the Twins because i love baseball, hate football and the Twins consistently provide winning seasons, and they’re cheap, but I want to throw a plug in for the Swarm. We’ve had season tickets for 2 years, and it’s one of the most entertaining experiences in Minnesota sports. Cheap tickets, good playing, winning team, fantastic announcer, it’s definitely worth checking out, even if you have no knowledge of lacrosse. I still don’t know much about it, but it’s always a great time.

Of the sports I do watch I enjoyed football the most for TV watching (I’ve never been to a Vikings game live) but I really like watching baseball in person. I would have voted for the Vikings but since I waited until after the game last night I chose the Saints.
Now, most of you would ask why I would choose the Saints over the Twinkies… You know that I don’t pay much attention to the Saints playing when I go to the games or that I really think that an outdoor stadium is absolutely overrated. Well, I disagree with building a new stadium funded from any taxpayer dollars and I can’t really side with the need for a new stadium that is built without the necessary pieces in place to put a roof over its head once people realize that it’s going to fucking snow on opening day for sure (like it has several times that Kim and I have gone during the first few games of the season).

I voted for the Saints, only because I am a transplant here and they are a team/organization that provides a great atmosphere for very little money on a regular basis.
I like the Twins, although the Braves are my first love in baseball. I believe the Twins have some great players, they hustle, they have a really good coach, and possibly the worst ownership in all of pro sports. An ultra rich, super cheapskate owner would is content to win 80 to 90 games per year and not have to spend any of his moldy money to make a real push at a championship. Any owner who would VOLUNTEER his team for contraction just to ensure a smooth buy out really deserves less than this team provides.
As for the Vikings. I like the new owner, but as with my beloved Falcons, I think he is proving that the best intentions dont always ease the pain of trying to learn a new profession. He has the funds, but he is having a hard time putting winners around him. I am not sold on Childress or Tjack, and would have gladly told you that before the game last night. I may eat crow by the end of the year, but I think they have built a hell of a team around a pair of paper tigers in the coach and QB.
So……..Go Saints?!
As for the Swarm, that sounds really cool. I have watched Indoor Lacrosse on ESPN17 or whatever it is, it looks really fun actually.

Kim and I went to see The Minnesota Swarm play at the Xcel back in early 2006… Eh, it was ok but it really wasn’t for me. All of the excitement came in the last few minutes and because we were losing they just fought the entire time:
We just got our season tickets for the Minnesota RollerGirls (again) and while they aren’t professionals they are a great time on the cheap.

[...] closed up the Best Minnesota Professional Sports Team poll a bit early because it was too damn big and it just wasn’t all that great in the first place. [...]
