I spent about 24 hours with the infamous Sank at his frigid lakeside retreat in Western Wisconsin while the majority of Metro area residents enjoyed summer-like temperatures. While Sank regularly updates his own readers with a semi-regular “Blake Lake Report”, this is only my second.
We arrived at around noon on Saturday after stopping in town for a few groceries which mainly consisted of New Glarus’ Belgian Red Ale and munchies. Sank whipped up an excellent lunch of grilled sourdough bread grilled Wisconsin cheddar cheese ends and tomato basil soup. On a day full of miserable wind, mist, and fog, this was the perfect way to start a relaxing day at the cabin.
After lunch we watched some college football and I stretched out on the couch and napped while Sank’s dog, Giggs, curled up next to my feet–about as close to me as he got all day. We watched some more football and made plans to head over to Sank’s favorite watering hole, the Eagle Lounge, for a burger. We spent some time there enjoying our $4.50 California burgers and onion rings before one of the bartenders yelled at me for whistling the ESPN theme song. While I thought she was kidding, she wasn’t, and we left soon after.
Back to the cabin for a movie, J. Edgar, and some computer use with Sank complaining by 10 PM that he was ready for bed. With us planning to leave by 10 AM the next morning I suppose it makes sense that an old man would want to hit the hay early to get a jump on his Sunday. While I had a pile of things I wanted to get done: work, school, relaxation, etc, I ended up doing more of the later than the former and that was just fine for me.
So what did you do this past weekend? Were you out enjoying the warm weather or were you holed up somewhere in Western Wisconsin watching the thermometer inch nearly 20 degrees warmer after the sunset behind the trees? When you’re not at home do you find yourself doing absolutely nothing or are you running around filling your days with a long itinerary of things to do?
Many thanks to Sank for the great weekend with great company and I hope you comment on below!

It was a good weekend. And just for the record it was 11:30 when I hit the hay, I just compalined about it for an hour and half. You forgot the memorable part, our trip to Balsam Lake where we visted the businesses in town, both the Hardware Hanks AND the Dollar store. Big Fun in the big white north.

So you basically didn’t really do all that much this weekend then.
(C’mon, you were all thinking it, somebody had to say it)

“While I had a pile of things I wanted to get done: work, school, relaxation, etc,”
Come on, you really thought you would get that much done in one afternoon/evening? :)
