Ahhh, yes, another genius move by those that are planning developments in the ever expanding urban sprawl that is Apple Valley, MN. It never fucking ceases to amaze me that when 100 people tell a corporation that their idea blows and the corporation pretty much does whatever it wants anyway.
In this case I’m talking about the Cobblestone Lake neighborhood in Apple Valley. This area is very close to Rosemount and is on the eastern side of Apple Valley. Apparently the developers have had a plan to put some sort of shopping area in the community but the residents have always felt that it would be something less sprawlish (Target, Buffalo Wild Wings, Coldstone Creamery, and Cub) and more like Grand Ave.
Of course the developers don’t want to bring in smaller shops that have character, oh no, they want to bring in a huge and unncessary Target store. Great fucking idea douchebags!
To illustrate exactly why this is a completely retarded idea, I have included the following map (please do feel free to click on it for more information):

Yup, 4 miles away (2.5 as the crow flies) right there in the center of Apple Valley is another fucking Target. Now, obviously these planners are going to get some sort of huge kickback if they get Target in there or there would be no other reason why they would want to do this.
It’s not like people are going to walk to Target. Nope, they would still drive if this target was closer than the one at the corner of Cedar and 42.

Pretty sure that the apple vallley target store right now is WAY to busy and the fact that they are always out of everything that i need does bother me. I asked one of the employees there why they were out of everything… he said that the reason was that the distribution center could not keep up with there sales and they could not warehouse the products to stock the shelves. When i asked him about the new store going up in the cobblestone lake area, and how the distribution centers would keep up with TWO stores he informed me that the new store would be supplied from another distribution center. He also informed me that this would help to keep the traffic down and to help both stores have the products they need for thier guests.

They aren’t “out” of things, they just don’t stock variety. It’s a sad state of affairs when you go grocery shopping in that store. Slim choices…
If it were really the case that a single distribution center couldn’t keep the store stocked (which is a fucking crock) then they would already be having this second mythical distribution center shipping stuff to the first store to keep it stocked. The fact that they aren’t means that it will not be any different in the future.

Target has a distribution center in Fridley. The next closest two would be either Cedar Falls, IA or Oconomowoc, WI (between Madison and Milwaukee). They aren’t trucking stuff to a second store from one of those two when they have a center in the Twin Cities.
You’ve managed to speak to a clueless employee making minimum wage. :)

You people….first of all, must you use profanity…how old are you? I can’t wait for the new Target store to open. We need more retailers in this area….away from the heart of Apple Valley. Traffic is unbearable in that area. I’ll be the first to shop there.

Old enough to use profanity.

If anything we need more non-chains in the heart of Apple Valley so that SUV-driving soccer mom’s stop wasting gas driving out of their way to get groceries when they falsely believe there is a traffic problem.
I just don’t understand this overcrowding concern at the current Target. It just doesn’t exist — ever.

Not sure where you people are shopping at, but the Apple Valley Target is ALWAYS busy no matter what day of the week or what time I shop there. (I work full-time so maybe every other full-time employee is shopping when I am). I cannot wait until this new Target is open! I will be the first one shopping there. They don’t seem to be out of anything I need 99.9% of the time.

*shrug*. It’s *NEVER* busy enough for me to care enough and to anyone who says it *IS* busy, you’re lying or clueless what “busy” really means.
Wake me up when the parking lot is so full (and not the first three rows closest to 42, half way to Wendy’s) and there isn’t a single shopping cart in the front of the store to use while all the lanes are packed 10 deep.
When the store is at 100% capacity, then it is full and not some imaginary “crowded” limit that you have come up with as some sort of excuse why we should build yet another unnecessary chain store in Apple Valley to service residents in Lakeville, Rosemount, and Farmington. If those communities need one so bad, they can get as dumb as the Apple Valley Planning Commission and City Council and build one themselves in the area.
