My wife and I spent the weekend at the Grand Hotel and we dined together at Cosmos Restaurant located on the 4th floor of the Graves 601 Hotel. This was definitely one of the most beautiful restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of dining in and the meals we were served were the best I’ve ever had in Minnesota and ranks in my top three ever.
While I’d love to drone on and on about the Mahi-Mahi tartare Amuse-bouche with wonderful hints of pineapple, the palate cleansing cinnamon/apple explosion intermezzo, or even my fabulous deconstructed seafood dish, it just couldn’t possibly do any justice to the complex and distinct flavors. I’ll just have to have the pictures do most of the talking for me:
Have you ever eaten at Cosmos in Minneapolis? If so what did you think? Do they always serve amuse-bouche and palate cleansers before the main courses come out (they weren’t listed on the menu)? Did you feel that the price was worth it (I did!)? What did you think of the decor? Whatever you have to say about Cosmos at the Graves 601 hotel go ahead and comment on as I’d love to hear your thoughts!

The Top Chef wannabe in me thinks this looks like a grand meal. I am afraid that my husband’s tastes run more in the Man vs.Food category. I don’t think I will get him there anytime soon. I hope that you guys had a wonderful time together. It is nice to have some special alone times before the bambino comes! Do you have names picked out? How about some suggestions from the blog faithful?

Names were chosen and set in stone 10 years ago. The boy’s name is determined by history and if it had been a girl it was determined jointly by my wife and I. Thanks for offering to help though, much appreciated :-)
BTW what did you think of Satay2Go?

Wow! Looks and sounds like a great dining and dating experience. We used to do great restaurants like that – before the prodigy had to go to college!!!!
Kids have a funny way of taking up time, energy, and $$$$$$$…
And, boy are they ever worth it.
When is the big day expected to be???

We’ve been there four times since it opened, and each time it’s fantastic. It’s on it’s third chef, I believe, and incredibly I haven’t noticed any real drop off in quality. Wonderful, creative, delicious food. And it’s fairly easy to get a reservation. The only sad thing about the place is that I’ve been there at 6pm on a Friday, and felt like the only guy in the room.

my husband and i stayed at the graves601 on thanksgiving(his birthday) this year. and we were already a little over budget so we didn’t eat there but now i wish we had. the hotel was amazing though, and i agree about how beautiful the cosmos was, you have to go right past it to get to the other set of elevators that takes you up to the rooms. someday we’ll go back for a datenight dinner.

Cosmos is always near the top of my recommendation list for Minneapolis. I’ve also been there several times just to relax in the lounge and have desserts which are outstanding.
Counter to Jason D’s experience, I’ve usually had different experiences on the weekends, especially later. In fact, sometimes the amount/type of people in the bar/lounge area can be a bit annoying — it seems to attract a large number of bachelor/ette groups and groups of friends trying way too hard to look pretty/hip. The last time I was there, the L.A. Lakers were passing through the lounge to get up to their rooms. It was great people-watching.
I can only remember one time when it was really serene.
Anyway…I’m really glad you and Kim had a great time.

For whatever reason it was very quiet the night we were in (a Saturday right after the Holidazzle). And once the bar crowd cleared out (while we were snacking on our bread) I don’t think I heard much more than a peep. In fact, later when I was taking pictures through the glass and into the lounge, there were only two couples snuggling.

I haven’t gotten to Satay yet. I am battling a nasty sinus infection and can’t taste a whole lot. I am waiting for it to clear up before I go there. Can’t wait though! Maybe I should order extra hot and blow out the infection to kingdom come.
