From the Star Tribune’s South Metro Police Blotter:
Disturbing the peace. A man reportedly was break-dancing in the middle of a turning lane near Annapolis Street E. and Robert Street S. When a woman first saw him, she thought he was a dog because he was on all fours. Another man on the side of the road was encouraging him.
When I was in Memphis recently we were staying at a very inexpensive Extended Stay Suites in what some would consider “the wrong side of the tracks”. While driving around that part of town trying to find an appropriate stash of Yuengling to buy in bulk and take back home with me I ran into two apparent crackheads dancing in the middle of the street in different areas of town. While the guy in the blotter above had encouragement, these two seemed to be alone and totally oblivious to their surroundings. What was more incredible was the fact that the majority of those driving around were oblivious to the fact that there were crackheads in the middle of a busy 6 lane road.
I have traveled all over the place and while I have run into people doing stupid things in the middle of the road I have to admit my experiences in Memphis and the one reported in the blotter above top anything I had ever seen before. What strange things have you seen people do in the street before? Has anyone done anything that nearly got them killed but had you laughing anyway?

I haven’t seen it personally, but I did see this a few weeks ago and had to watch it a few times just to make sure what I thought I saw happen actually happened.

The worst thing I’ve ever seen happened when I lived in Kansas City. I was driving on I-435 eastbound about where it intersects with Hwy 71, on the SE corner of the metro area. There was quite a bit of construction going on and my direction of travel had been reduced to 2 lanes with no shoulder, and lined with tall jersery barriers on each side. I had been in the right lane but as the road curved sharply to the left I changed lanes and was now in the left hand lane. Just as I completed my lane change, I come up on this person who had stopped IN the lane of traffic and was beginning to change their tire!!!! WTF!!! Had I not changed lanes I probably would have killed the person. I could not believe what I had just seen. I can’t believe the person didn’t get hit eventually, but I never heard anything about it. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Another very stupid thing I saw happened here in the Twin Cities. It was either last summer or the summer before. I was traveling up I-35W on my way to see the Twins play. somewhere near the 38th St or 42nd St interchange, I saw an old, rusty vehicle had pulled over on the LEFT shoulder. Inside the car was a man, woman, and about a half dozen unbuckled kids. Then I noticed right in front of the vehicle was a young boy, maybe 6 years old, standing and facing the barrier, clearly taking a piss!! The lazy-assed adults in the vehicle (who knows if they were the parents) couldn’t take the time to get off the highway and stop at a gas station or fast food place so the kid could take a safe, private piss. Instead they risk the kid’s life by stopping in the middle of the highway. I grabbed my cell phone to call the police about the traffic hazard and unbuckled kids but decided that by the time they got there, the idiots would be gone. It’s always sad when kids suffer because of their parents stupidity.

i’ve found that in general, life in the southern states is able to go down hill much further than life in the northern states. I assume that simply is because the weather doesn’t have too much impact on the decisions that many people have.

Yuengling. Had to Google it. Apparently I lead a very sheltered life.
