Last week’s poll asked about your preferred method to grill out and the hands down winner, which was no surprise, was Hank Hill’s favorite–propane. What was surprising to me were the people voting for charcoal. As many others have noted, it’s messy, it’s slow and it’s generally a pain to get going (unless you have one of those charcoal starter chimneys). I only use it when camping but I suppose it’s a popular choice when you just want to chill out and drink beer which is something I can definitely relate to!
Anyway, this week’s poll is about eating Sunday brunch. With Easter Sunday brunch coming up and Mothers’ Day soon too, I figured I’d ask how many of you brave your favorite restaurant’s conversion into a buffet style, omelette flipping, and meat carving madhouse on these two famous Sundays?
I grew up going to brunch on Sundays. Our favorites were at “The Castaways” and what we referred to as the “Train Station” (it was in the past and it was unbelievably huge but it wasn’t at the time–maybe it is now, I dunno). I remember many meals topped off with omelettes with everything (apparently odd as most of the chefs looked at me like I was nuts–I guess most 5 and 6 year old children don’t normally go for that) and cups of cappuccino. Now, once I moved here we go away from the whole Sunday buffet thing because we’re poor and my wife is cheap but being that we have our first Mothers’ Day rapidly approaching I figured I’d make a reservation to a buffet I know she Enjoys! (she went with my mother in the fall of last year while my father and I were off in WI fishing with Sank)
So how many of you eat Sunday brunch buffets on a regular basis and how many of you just do it on Easter or Mothers’ Day? Which ones do you prefer locally? What has the makings of a good brunch buffet for you? Whatever you have to say about eating Sunday brunch go ahead and comment on as I’d love to hear your thoughts!

We do Sunday Brunch mostly on Game days In Mpls at Ike’s. If you’ve never been for Sunday Brunch, you need to try it. Massive sized cinammon rolls alnmost the size of your head, and a big choice of all you can eat food brought to your table. As far as best brunch ever, The Grand Concourse in Pittsburgh is the largest and best tasting one ever.

We’re not regulars by any means, but when we do go out for brunch, we like Chatterbox in Highland Park. THey actually have brunch, ribs, chicken wings, french toast, eggs, roasted red pepper mashed potatoes, and lots of other delicious samplings. Many places when they offer “brunch” it’s just eggs, other breakfast items, prime rib ad mashed potatoes, there’s not a lot of variety.

I haven’t done Sunday brunch in years. I don’t know why, it’s not like I have anything against it, I just don’t do it.
The last time I went to a brunch buffet was at the Paris in Las Vegas about a year and a half ago, and that was on a weekday. It was pricier than what a typical buffet runs around here, but the selection was quite good. I would say my all-time favorite brunch buffet anywhere was at the Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood) next door, though.
Locally, I remember Sunsets in Excelsior having a good spread the couple of times I ate there, but I haven’t been there in five years, so I’m not sure if that’s still the case.

no fucking way, easter and mother’s day are the two days I would avoid most out of the year. WAY too busy, long lines, cold food, and poor service are what I have come to expect on those days. Overall I’m not as eager to out for breakfast as I used to be in general, since breakfast food needs to be hot to be good and it gets cold too fast. I can get much better food for MUCH cheaper at home. (eggs benedict for $13????)

I agree with Ben all points. I made a helluva brunch at home for about the price of one brunch cost. I don’t like cold food, limp bacon, tough eggs, etc. I make made to order fritattas that please the family.

We go for brunch once in awhile. We have not been for quite some time, but used to go to Jax once in awhile and loved it.

I like a good Sunday Brunch, but I’d rather poke out my own eye’s than go on Mother’s Day or Easter. I’ll stay at home with the charcoal grill on those days. :)

Bill, I bet you could whip up a far superior Sunday brunch for your wife than she’d get at most places. Plus, as a few other folks have mentioned, a brunch buffet is really the last place she should spend Mother’s Day. It will be a madhouse.
