Tonight Kim and I went out with family to the Edina Grill (W 50th and France Ave S in Edina) for dinner.
A cousin of various other local establishments including one of my favorite restaurants, the Longfellow Grill, the Edina Grill was nothing like what I came to expect.
A self proclaimed “urban diner” with menu items that are far more suitable for snacking or lunch, I was left completely unimpressed with their selections for dinner.
I ordered a Duvel (Belgian Ale) while we waited. The drinks came quickly and I was brought a nice mug (not frosted). The service was always friendly and fast and when I asked for another beer during dinner it was brought ninja-style and I didn’t even notice that it was there!
I started with a Black Bean Falafel appetizer which are served with fresh pineapple, pico de gallo, and poblano peanut pesto aioli. The falafels were uninspired, boring, and the pico degallo/pesto was basically tasteless. I’ll skip them if we return.
I ordered their Pear and Walnut Rigatoni which was described as roasted pears and walnuts with rigatoni noodles in a gorgonzola cream sauce. An interesting sounding dish that I had high hopes for. The pear pieces were not roasted at all and instead were blatantly raw. Other than that the dish was ok. The gorgonzola cream sauce was good and I enjoyed it.
For desert I ordered their Bread Pudding which came served with ice cream. It was extrememly well done. Yum!
I’ll stick to the Longfellow Grill in the future but if you’re in Edina and you’re looking for a quick bite or a good desert, the Edina Grill is a good choice. If you’re looking for something substantial for dinner, pass this one up.
