The final holiday themed poll for 2008 is going to replace the highly successful (discussion wise as it had 28 comments!) Santa: Legend or “Real” Poll. It appears that the majority of you here (along with both of my parents who have never commented before) believe that you should teach children about Santa in the sense that he’s “real”. Very interesting discussion and results, thank you for your time there!
This week we’re going to take a look at who you believe is the best animated holiday character from either TV or movies. There are a lot to choose from so I’m going to limit the base choices to the ones I could think of off the top of my head and then I’m going to offer an “Other” option where I ask that you place your choice in the comments below.
Personally, I prefer the Mad TV claymation Rudolf known as the Reinfather but I’ll keep the poll options more serious that that. If you haven’t seen the segment, I have stuck in a YouTube clip for your enjoyment below. Please note that this probably isn’t something you want to show your children ;-)
I will let this poll run from today (Saturday) through Christmas to end on December 28th. So vote and comment on and have fun with this one :)

I love all the Christmas specials but Charlie Brown will always be my favorite. When I was little my mom made such a big deal about Christmas specials, telling us days in advance which show would be on. We always got the Kemps Ice Cream Trees, sometimes popcorn too, always hot chocolate as well. My mom was such a big kid that she truly enjoyed the specials as much as the kids did.
I just had a conversation with a friend about the Christmas specials we enjoyed as children. Most kids these days are completely unimpressed by Rudolph, the Grinch, Frosty, Charlie Brown and all the others. Kids these days have 24/7 access to cartoons and every Disney/Pixar movie spawns a Christmas special, Easter special, Arbor day special etc. I feel like most kids are some how too sophisticated to enjoy a simple story of a boy (or a Grinch) trying to find the true meaning of Christmas. I don’t have kids (yet) but I can definitely see an argument to limiting a child’s access to the constant barrage of television aimed at children.

I know a rather large elf who would be sad that he wasn’t even mentioned among your favorites. I think he’s eating some broccoli out of spite.

Yeah, Buddy the Elf rules. I mean, anyone who can burp that long and eat that much candy is just a god amongst men!

Did you name your dog after Buddy the Elf?!?!

I’m not sure where Buddy’s name originated. We picked him up from the Humane Society in the summer of 2004 when he was 1.5. He didn’t seem bright enough to accept a name change so we left it as is.

I don’t think Buddy was dissed, he just doesn’t fall within the parameters of the poll. Buddy is not an animated character. He is live action.
