Last week’s poll about your favorite content here came as a bit of a surprise. While the #1 spot was “Food Reviews” which was a no-brainer, I must say that I was glad to see that those of you looking for local news was #2. I have been upping the ante on both slots to keep you informed of the food that may or may not be so good to eat while letting you know what shit the local city/county officials are trying to feed you. Hopefully I can keep up the pace and continue delivering what posts people like to read.
Well today is Groundhog Day. This was always an important day for me because it’s the day before my mother’s birthday. It was nice having a mental reminder that I probably should call her and wish her a happy birthday the next day. While we have modern advances like Google Calendar which notifies me several times about important, upcoming dates, back in the day it was nice to have an automatic “Mom’s Birthday” reminder pop up on the old-school calendars.
If you didn’t know, (I didn’t before I saw it on twitter thanks to local South Metro blogger Conner), Phil saw his shadow and we’re in for many more weeks of winter (Phil has never been to Minnesota I’d guess).
Being that it’s Groundhog Day, I thought I’d share a dirty little secret of mine that I absolutely adore the Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day. I suppose there’s just something great about someone throwing an alarm clock at the wall, throwing himself in front of a bus, and meeting Ned Ryerson time and time again.
Anyway, even though I love Groundhog Day, it’s certainly not my favorite movie of Bill Murray’s. He’s got so many great ones over his career that I just can’t choose one. I figured maybe you guys could help out there.
So, I have compiled voting for a couple of his better movies and left both an N/A and Other category for those of you that don’t like the choices. If you vote for “Other” please explain which one is your favorite. If you vote N/A, well, bitch away about why you hate Bill Murray ;-)

Rushmore. There’s something about Bill Murray getting into it with a 15-year-old Jason Schwartzman that makes for *great* cinema.

Man, I’m with bb stacker! Always thought he was about as unentertaining as it gets!

I do love Groundhog Day and Caddyshack, but I had to get Lost in Translation some recognition as well.

No love for Bill Murray? What!?!
Stripes is awesome, but Caddyshack and Groundhogs Day are great as well. Lost in Translation/Royal Tanenbaums were both so different for him as to earn an honorable mention, but I would think that Ghostbusters should have made the list as well?

Caddyshack — hands down. In the words of Jean-Paul Sartre, “Au revoir, go-pher!”

There’s two different Murrays: Young, frantic Murray, and old, deadpan Murray. Both are great, but they can’t be compared to each other. Its a main reason why many of his “middle movies” (Scrooged, What About Bob,) didn’t work as well.
While I love Caddyshack better as a movie, I prefer Murray’s performance in Meatballs. In the “Old Murray” line, Rushmore is great, as is hs small part in Ed Wood. I like The Life Aquatic, but mostly because I know some scientists and the film really goes after guys doing field research.

He’s definitely evolved his stuff as he’s gotten older, but he still can be funny as hell. I think you either love him or hate him, but I’m definitely a fan. Groundhog Day and Caddyshack are two of my all time favorites.

Meatballs. “The zones not working and they’re too good to cover man to man. So lets face it….we’re never gonna beat these guys”. Best line in the movie.

Hey, poll idea, what grocery stores do people do the BULK of their shopping at? I’m curious as I was driving past 3 grocery stores in a 3 block radius.
