Last week’s poll asked how you dispose of prescription drugs. What was most surprising was that the majority of people who responded get rid of their drugs in some other method than was available but provided no clue as to what that was. If you were one of the ‘Other’ respondents, how do you get rid of your medications?
This week’s poll asks about your favorite Summer Olympics sport. While there are many ways to determine what the best Olympic sports are including views, attendance, number of athletes, discussions on social media, etc, a few events have always been considered the most popular usually with swimming, gymnastics, and track and field topping the lists.
I obviously prefer to watch swimming although this year it’s really incredibly annoying to have NBC pushing so very hard to create this artificial rivalry between Phelps and Lochte which those who have followed swimming over the years knew would eventually turn in Lochte’s favor–which it may finally have this year. The other problem is that with the time difference and the availability of online streaming of events hours before primetime, we know and likely have seen the results of important events long before NBC decides to show them. Boo NBC.
So what is/are your favorite Olympic sport(s)? Has your interest in Olympic sports changed throughout the years? Do you plan to do a lot of watching of the events live online, are you going to read about them only, or are you going to wait for NBC’s coverage during primetime? What do you think of the Olympic Committee dropping softball and baseball but leaving in other games like basketball?
Whatever you have to say about this one go ahead and comment on and vote on the side bar and then feel free to check out our expired polls in the archive or read through the previous posts about polls here.

I don’t see this week’s poll, just the results of last week’s.
My favorite Olympic Sport is none of the above.

I go with Gymnastics as a favorite, perhaps because it is fairly easy to be packaged for viewing. Historically, when I watch the summer Olympics that is the interesting thing. Diving is pretty cool, Bow and shooting events are pretty cool, and the high jump, the long jump, hurdles… dang… really nearly all the events I enjoy.
This year NBC seems to have figured out what people want in streams, of course they did this really stupid and irritating thing where you need to have some sort of pay service to watch the streams. Hey idiots, I can hang a wire out my window and watch your stuff for free. Why do I need to pay to watch streams with adds built into them? This trend of requiring pay tv to view streams you don’t need pay tv to watch is going to be very irritating for cord cutters. My youngest moved out a few months ago and is a cord cutter. he’s watching the olympics via the streams using my account.

re: other for medications, we rarely have leftover medications, as the ones we take are either anti-biotics on occasion or on-going medications so we typically use them until they’re gone. Nothing to get rid of. We use very few OTC meds.
Re: Olympics, I find them boring. I watch none of them. (winter or sumemr)

My favs are badminton, table tennis, handball, and water polo. But in general, the summer Olympics suck compared to winter.

I love volleyball, table tennis, water polo, judo and almost everything else. I especially like things that I don’t normally get to see, like fencing.
And with that said, I don’t really get to watch much of that because I don’t have the right cable package. I pay for cable, just not enough cable to allow for me to stream. I wish there were other options, even pay options. I’d pay comcast/nbc for streaming rights, if it were reasonable.
I’d also be very happy if they would stream for free on Netflix or Hulu 24 hours later. For a lot of the events, I could easily avoid spoilers and would love to watch the table tennis or weight lifting finals.
I wonder what the athletes think about all the people who would love to watch them, but can’t? It must be frustrating for them too if they aren’t part of the popular prime time sports. How will a fan base ever be developed if potential fans have no way to view the sport?

I enjoy the Olympics, though I prefer Winter over Summer since I love to watch the downhill skiing and snowboarding events. I enjoy watching most of the sports in the Summer Olympics, though I don’t spend as much time watching basketball or soccer since I can see them at other times. I especially like watching the events that aren’t on TV at other times, like fencing, archery and shooting, equestrian, and the boating events.

I have 4 kids who all swim, so that’s definitely our favorite sport to watch. My only complaint is how easy it is to get results without seeing the races. Especially this weekend with MN Long Course Championships at the U of M. We heard the 400IM results before we had a chance to watch the race.
Diving and gymnastics are always a favorite, as well.

I played a lot of Handball as a youth, so I would go with that.
Wait, we are talking about the Olympics?

Field hockey

I prefer the winter Olympics. Like Tim, I enjoy watching downhill skiing and snowboarding. Something about being on the edge of danger that you don’t get from, say, swimming.
Now if they had something on bikes comparable to skier/snowboard cross, that might be worth watching.

Hockey (winter) is about all that’s watchable with the sound on. Table tennis is fun to watch in the summer. I might warm up to women’s field hockey after the previous comment though.
