Kim and I embarked on our vacation starting last Friday. We left MSP’s Humphrey Terminal via Airtran and eventually ended up in Savannah, GA (SAV). When I was making the reservations I thought I got a really killer airfare deal… Unfortunately we were flying out on Friday instead of Saturday and we were SOL on a place to stay for the night.
A buddy that I went to college with, Andy, had recently moved to North Charleston, SC with his wife. I hadn’t seen him since college so I asked if we could crash with him for the night. He was all for it.
We rented a nice car in Savannah (free upgrade with my Midwest Miles card) that included a Magellan GPS unit. It was interesting for about 10 minutes until I decided that the maps sucked and that I didn’t need Hertz knowing where I went and how fast I went there. The car had low tire pressure in the right rear (at least that’s what the car was telling me) but it really seemed like the front left was lower. Whatever.
We got to Andy’s house around 2pm and after a quick tour of their house we started drinking. Mmm Yuengling! We played caps until Andy’s wife (another Kim) came home from work and then we took his 1971 Chevelle out to dinner and ate at a Mexican place nearby. I don’t remember the name, I don’t really remember what I had to eat (other than the #7), and I don’t really care ;)
After we got home Andy gave me a nice Dominican cigar and some whiskey. We sat out on their porch and chatted until I was too tired to keep my eyes open anymore.
The next morning Andy and Kim made us breakfast (blueberry pancakes, sausages, and an omlette). Yummo! We watched some TV and then got our stuff together and into the car.
Kim and I made our way (different route this time) back to Hilton Head Island to await the arrival of my parents and her friend Jess. Both of those flights were delayed so we took our time. I stopped for a cache near Andy’s house and enjoyed the scenery of the drive.
A very nice time — thanks Andy and Kim for the great Southren hospitality ;)
See all the pictures from this leg of the trip here (mobile) and here (mobile). I’ll get around to getting the real photos posted this week.
