Spent the weekend caching with Arcticabn through four states (MN, SD, IA, and NE) and picking up 100 caches in 2.5 days. We left my house on Friday at nearly 1:00PM and finished up around 9:30PM somewhere outside of Sioux City, IA. We weren’t having much luck that night and only found 8 of the 100 goal.
Bummed, we headed to Godfather’s Pizza for dinner and beer. After checking in to the hotel we went over to Cheers Bar and Grille and spent the evening unwinding with beer and darts. Dave was far superior hammered and showed me just how much I was out of shape at 501.
The next morning started with a 5:30AM wake up call from Tom Bodett and we were back on the road heading for Omaha by 5:59AM. After a gorgeous sunrise over the lake at a State Park in Southern IA we crossed the border into NE to hit our first cache in a virgin state. After a DNF provided a great view of the rising sun at a nearby overlook we headed to the banks of the Missouri river for our first real find in NE.
Nearly 13 hours later and 52 more caches we ended our day at around 8:00PM and checked into the hotel. We ate at Austin’s Steaks and Saloon which came highly recommended by the hotel desk clerk and hit the sack early. Another 5:30AM wake up call was expected and we had about 500 miles of driving through IA along with 39 more caches to find.
Just before 6:00AM we were heading for the IA border and our first caches. We got to see some really interesting parts of rural towns in Iowa and saw the first snowflakes of the season falling at a cache appropriately named “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
Our goal of getting home by 8:30PM was met by 3 minutes and I promptly cuddled up with Kimmy and relaxed after one of the best caching weekends I’ve had!
