According to this article in Thisweek Online, the GrandStay Hotel is opening in Apple Valley, MN in the heart of the most worthless area of Apple Valley, the 153rd and Legacy Park. The area that hosts such wonderful favorites as Two Guys from Italy and Kami Japanese Steakhouse.
According to a quick, non-holiday, search that I did on GrandStay’s reservation site, it would appear that the lowest price they have for a room at the new hotel is $89.90 which includes the following amenities:
- 1 Queen/Private Bedroom
- Separate Living Area
- Sofa Sleeper
- DVD
- Full Kitchen
- Wireless Internet
- Gourmet Express Breakfast
If you upgrade to their $139.90 room, you get the same stuff and a whirlpool. They also have some other options at the $140 range which include two Queens and two bedrooms.
I absolutely hate that fucking traffic circle they built in front of this towering eyesore and have brought the dangerous intersection to the attention of Apple Valley but have not received any response back as of yet.
I would guess there is a need for another hotel in Apple Valley being that the AmericInn at the corner of Cedar and 42 pretty much sucks and is priced the same as the much nicer Hilton in Eagan. But I worry what would happen if it went out of business just like the numerous other businesses in the area have recently. Based on what I remember from our wedding guests’ stay two years ago, this location will be competitively priced but will absolutely kick the shit out of the offerings of the AmericInn. They better do something fast in order to better compete.

Just wait until the snow comes. The already confusing Circle of Doom will not only be frustrating, but slippery. I can’t wait…
Every time I drive through that area I rant at the wasted time, money and energy that went into the circle.

“CD”,
At least you don’t live in the area any longer and you aren’t subjected to it daily. I have been trying my best to avoid it all together. Kim and I have seen several more confused drivers in the area and still nothing being done by the wonder that is the Apple Valley City government.
If anyone else has seen people going the wrong way after traversing that traffic circle, let us know! :)

have to confess I was one of those confused drivers. I like to think that I’ve got a handle on the round abouts but… Just the other day I entered the round-about from other than the direction I normally do and ended up going the wrong way in the circle. I was so embarrassed. But if it can happen to me I know it will happen to others. I’ll try to avoid that area when at all possible.

What’s wrong with you people?? Traffic circles/roundabouts are the best thing ever—no lights…keeps traffic flowing.
Maybe you all need to learn to drive!!

Maybe the people who designed this particular intersection should have made it more clear where the one-way streets are so that people, not us, don’t end up traveling down 153rd the wrong way?
