I have reviewed a few spicy cheeses over the years, everything from Habanero Ghost Pepper Cheese from the cheese store at the Mall of America to Hot Wasabi Horseradish which earned itself a one-way trip to the City of Burnsville’s single biggest money maker–the landfill.
Well, yesterday while The Wife continued her battle with the flu and The Koala was down for her mid-morning nap, The Rooster and I headed over to Sam’s Club for some grocery shopping. My original intent was to get scallops for Christmas Eve dinner but I ended up with a grocery cart full of stuff including three jars of salsa (two ghost pepper and one habanero garlic) and a tiny wheel of three pepper cheese. While most of the wheels there were in the $15 range, I dug around a bit and found a super thin one clocking in at $4.25. I put it into the cart figuring that the jalapeno, habanero, and chipotle would come out more like a -3 alarm but worthy of a post none-the-less.
I got home and spent the day playing Mr. Mom but last evening I decided it was time to check out my purchase and I opened up the package and cut off a good sized hunk. I popped it in my mouth and immediately noticed the chipotle smoke flavor dominating the cheese. However, soon after the smoke cleared, I was left with a very pleasant and strong burn from the habanero without the fruity habanero flavor. While I have previously tried and loved Cabot’s Hot Habanero Cheddar on many occasions, its high cost keeps from buying it on a regular basis. While this cheese isn’t quite as good as that one, the price alone makes it well worth it. I have already stated I will be going back soon to get a bigger wheel and hope that it is still in stock; nom!
Have you ever tried Great Midwest’s Three Alarm Colby Jack Cheese? If so what did you think? Have you seen it anywhere else other than Sam’s Club? Have you tried any of their other cheeses? If so which ones? On a somewhat related note, what are you planning to serve for the holidays? Any good recipes you’re willing to share? Whatever you have to say about this spicy cheese go ahead and comment on as I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Might be something to try and pickup, if only to see what a pleasant burn might be.
Ham and Turkey for the Christmas feast this year. About 30 people at my home, all family from my wife’s side. Deep frying a turkey, and roasting a turkey breast and ham. Then the horde is responsible for the rest. Always a couple surprises in the vast food spread that occurs as folks arrive.

Let me guess, your total came in around $100? It happens to me when I go in there for one thing. :)
