According to this Dakota County Criminal Complaint it would appear that some people like to make quite the ordeal out of their birthdays. After chasing a vehicle leaving a Rosemount bar, sometimes at speeds in excess of 90 mph, the Rosemount police finally caught up to the driver and brought his three day birthday party to an abrupt end:
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Shayne Michael Severson, DOB: 3-9-74, then exited his vehicle and ignored officer’s commands to stay at his vehicle. Severson began to walk towards the officers, at which time officers had to taze Severson. After being tazed, Severson finally complied and went to the ground.
As Severson was being placed under arrest, officers could smell an extremely strong odor of alcoholic beverages coming from his facial area. The officers observed that his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Severson also admitted that he had had too much to drink and that he was drunk. When asked how much he had to drink, Severson responded “plenty”. Severson went on to tell the officers that it was birthday. When Severson stepped from his vehicle officers noted that he had possibly urinated in his pants as there stains in that area consistent with urination.
So did he piss his pants because he was piss drunk or did he piss his pants because they used the taser on him? We’ll never know and by the sounds of it this guy may not either.

stains consistent with urination, wow. i wonder if there were previous dry stains accompanying the wet stains? stains in another area that i don’t want to think about?

I’m a little surprised that the cops don’t go back to the bar and talk to them a bit. Sounds to me like someone was a bit over-served.
Though I’m pretty sure that the tazer caused the loss of fluid, though it depends on where the tazer hit him. It can cause muscle spasms which can include loss of bladder control.

It’s worded pretty vaguely. I wonder if they did so on purpose to make some people believe he may have been so drunk that he pissed himself rather than the taser doing it.

Perhaps the social stigma of possibly now being known as Shayneee Pee Pants (if not the realization that he could have killed someone, or the hefty DUI fine, or the increase in his insurance rates) will cause him to reflect a bit before he gets in the car after a night of drinking? We can only hope.

Whit- It would be nice to think that people are that logical. But this is a guy celebrating his 36th birthday this hard, so probably not! I have plenty of friends who got “piss your pants” drunk in college, but that was 21st, 22nd birthday stuff. If this guy hasn’t learned yet, I’m guessing he never will.

Maybe he’s a late bloomer. You know, one of those guys who wet the bed until they were 10.

I am not always the biggest fan of our police, but honestly I am probably pretty far to the pro tazer side. If the police tell someone to stay in the car, and the person does not listen, and then they tell the person to stop and he continues to approach them, I am 100% in favor of using the tazer. I just think of what that must be like to be in the cops position, esp in light of the recent shooting (2 in the last couple weeks in Burnsville alone), and the other posts we have all seen on here (the guy with the machete) etc.
I dont envy the cops having to walk up to a car next to the road in the middle of the night, and really try to always give them the benefit of the doubt in these situations.

He is my friend, I picked him up from jail and to get the dam record straight, he did not piss his pants. He was let out of jail with the same clothes he was arrested in, they did not smell like urine there were no stains at all! Dakota county police have a real issue with their egos. If you read the criminal complaint on the dakota county website they just added that at the end, just kind of like a “oh yeah one more thing” knowing full well the the report would be published and to cause humuliation.

Robyn, good for them for causing humiliation. Based on his actions, maybe a good dose of humiliation is what he needs to inspire him to clean up his act. If these actions are any indication of the type of person your friend is, he is an asshole and is reaping his just rewards. Hopefully you’re supporting him to change not just defending him/criticizing police.

Now that I look at it…marijuana possession, burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, driving without proof of insurance, multiple reckless speeding tickets, trespassing, disorderly conduct and DUI >.21…model citizen. Sounds like a great guy to hang out with Robyn. A real treat. Heaven forbid we…sniff, sniff…(drying tears)….humiliate the guy.
I guess my Magic Wand of Sympathy for Douchebags is busted. Oh well.
