We lounged around most of the morning on Wednesday knowing that we’d be heading out to go jetskiing at 11:15. Kim wasn’t interested in going (she never is) so she stayed back and cleaned up the condo, read books, and took a soak in the whirlpool bath in the master bedroom.
The rest of us (Jess, Matt, Josh, and I) met up w/my father, Mr. O’Connor, and the priests (who my parents also invited down) at my parents condo for the short ride over to the jetski location. I forget the name of the place and I *know* we’ve ridden there before (even though my father claims we haven’t but he’s wrong).
They offered us a choice of running circles in the salt water for an hour (which admittedly gets really boring) or going on a 30 minute tour of the Hilton Head Island lighthouse (the most identifiable feature of the island for outsiders), Dafuski Island, and some of the gorgeous homes along the shore and then 15 - 20 minutes in the middle of the ocean fucking around. We all chose the tour/fuck around. It was a great choice IMHO. The tour was gorgeous. The only downside was that Hilton Head has decided that jetskiies are too fucking fast (bastards) and they have goverened them to ~40mph. When you are used to the skiies going 65 to 75 that’s a huge letdown :(
We had a blast and I got a nice sunburn, mmm. Thanks for choosing that one Dad, nice job.
After we got back to the condo and got Kim ready to go, we headed over to Gruby’s New York Deli. We’ve been coming to Gruby’s for 20 years. It’s a regular stop on our Hilton Head Island tour and this year was no different…
This is the first time I had eaten in their new location (in the same plaza) and I can’t say I was at all impressed with their staff or service today. Their grill closed at 2:45pm (they are only open till 5 as it is) and their waitress splashed water all over me and didn’t apologize. Nice way to treat a 20 year long customer douchebags.
I ordered my usual sandwich but it was missing fries (grill being closed) and they didn’t even throw on a side of chips. Just a pickle. Yeah, I love pickles but that’s not the point. Bleh. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their sandwiches, minus Josh who seemed rushed to eat his monstrosity. He’s just a gigantic pussy when it comes to eating. That or he was still hungover ;)
This may have been my last time going to Gruby’s. It’s sad to have to end a tradition that gave me so many great memories over the years due to poor service and shitty attitudes but oh well :(

I have lived on Hilton Head Island for over 20 years(pretty much born here) and I am appalled at your use of words and criticism for our local eateries and activities. Guests like you are the ones that I would love to come to your hometown and your work and treat you with disrespect and see how you like it. I hope next time on your visit you get sloshed with more than water and a nice slap in the face with karma.
Regards,
Hilton Head Island Resident

I was treated with disrespect on Hilton Head at Gruby’s (as I said, the first time in the nearly 20 years we’ve been going to that restaurant). I guess I just don’t see what point you’re trying to make.
