According to this fluff piece over at the Pioneer Press, Burnsville’s illustrious shithead mayor Elizabeth Kautz is going to take over as President of the US Conference of Mayors. What I don’t understand is how this is news at all. We already knew that she’d be taking over but now we need a reminder and some sort of additional fluff because she’s going to waste even more Burnsville taxpayer time and effort for an additional 6 months?
The article states that she will be spending three to four hours a week working for the group and because Burnsville cannot afford a personal staff member to assist her in this task, one has been assigned by the group for her. It goes on to praise her for being the first suburban mayor to attain this level in the group, something that absolutely no one gives a flying fuck about but her.
The best part of the entire article comes when she is quoted as saying, “To have a small city reach this level of leadership is very rare. There’s a reason for that. When I’m given an assignment, I deliver.”
Oh be still my beating heart! I assume she’s talking about being assigned the task, by herself, of creating the Burnsville Performing Arts Center and letting it run into the ground–all on the shoulders of the taxpayers. Perhaps she means wanting a stupid fucking crosswalk in front of her condo so that people can go from one empty set of storefronts to another. Maybe she meant hanging flower baskets and Christmas lights along a road stuffed with traffic because she wants the area to look more attractive to those sitting in their cars for 45 minutes while they wait for yet another traffic light to go green?
Well, she didn’t mention any of the above in her interview but she did “hint” that economic development would play a big role–something which has been a huge disaster for her in Burnsville–well at least from everyone else’s viewpoint at least.
What do you think about this pointless fluff piece in the Pioneer Press about Kautz’s ascension to the highest level of an organization that doesn’t mean fucking jack shit? Whatever you think about Kautz and her “presidency” go ahead and comment on as I’d love to hear what you have to say.

The 3 to 4 hours per week she spends on this might be 3 or 4 hours of relief for the city of Burnsville. Can they hire her full time?

Can someone please remind me of how Mayor Kautz being in this position was going to bring all kinds of stimulus funds to the city because of her position? Hmm, I thought she put forth tens of millions of shovel ready projects and we were in the running for $705,000 for police that she cut. What have we received? Is the mayor using Burnsville tax dollars to attend these meetings, are we paying for her travels to participate?
When I am given an assignment I deliver!
Well Mayor Kautz, I would like to assign you the tasks to reduce crime in your city since it is up 9.35% YTD, address the 73 gangs in the city, backfill the sworn officers that have been cut, schedule an act in the main theatre at the PAC (maybe have all of the mayors come to Burnsville for the annual meeting to at least get some bodies into the PAC, and stimulate the local economy.) Deliver retail to the Heart of the City, maybe deliver on that white table cloth restaurant in the HOC that you said we would have.

Here’s some “assignments” to “deliver”:
1) Keep Dan Gustafson in line, why don’tcha?
2) If she’s got 3-4 hours of personal time free each day, she can connect with future voters of B’ville by donning a yellow safety vest and carrying a crosswalk flag and personally escorting the “hordes” of pedestrians in HOC safely across Nicollet at the “dangerous” intersection during “peak” times (whenever THAT is), maybe she can hand out coupons for her favorite watering hole at the same time. Or, better yet, stand at the intersection with that fake smile and tell the kiddies to “Do what’s right, cross at the light.”
3) Shadow Wolf Larson and find out exactly WHAT exactly he DOES all day long.
4) Volunteer at MVHS
5) Skim the dirty diapers out of the fountains every morning at Nicollet Commons Park
Completing these tasks will provide more tangible benefits to Burnsville than any intangibles she alleges she will bring to the city via her position at the US Conference of Mayors.

I think I found my answer….
Mayor Kautz appears on Fox News on Stimulus funds for mayors pet projects in December 30th 2008.

Mayor Kautz:
“Of course it is going to help the economy because people will be back to work”
Well Mayor Kautz, where are we now after the stimulus has been approved and we are 9 months down the road from you making these statements?
I eagerly watched to see if she asked for money for her PET PORK PROJECT, the PAC. The ask never came.
Now where are we? Cutting needed services that are being reduced or eliminated at the expense of her boondoggle of the PAC and HOC and raising taxes in these horrific economic times, job well done mayor.

Someone should send the PAC stats to the big mayor party.

Since she seems to only venture down to my neck of the woods while shopping at Macy’s (why do I see the Mayor at Macy’s more than anywhere else I wonder?) perhaps for those of us living near the financially viable and tax-base-supporting area of County Road 42 she could put in a good word with her flower basket supplier and ask if a gallon or two of Round Up could be spared for the forest of weeds that have been allowed to accumulate on County Rd 42, County Rd 5 and surrounding areas.
There is a weed in the street near the corner of County Rd 5 and McAndrews that must be 1.5 feet wide and 2 feet tall. It’s next to a utility pole that has a mangled mess of loose wires sticking out, next to the boulevard which is never mowed. Surely, she could discern which blighted corner I’m referring to. I know it’s hard to tell one blighted corner from another in my area of Burnsville, where the businesses actually contribute to the tax-base, but while she’s driving over to Macy’s every third day, perhaps she could take a peek.
