Met up with Aaron around 5:30pm at his place to pick up the infamous PBR hat that Aaron picked up for me at Sunday’s MN Rollergirls’ bout.
We sat around and listened to a fan-created 5.1 mixed down version of the Flaming Lips’ Zaireeka (a 4 CD experimental music set that’s meant to be played all at once on 4 different CD players with 8 speakers). The 5.1 mix is obviously a little less than it was originally intended but the added visual aspects (strange video clips that loosely fit the music) made up for the loss in my uneducated opinion. I have a copy of the ISO and plan on burning it tomorrow.
On our way to pick Kim up at the Lake Street’s LRT station, we passed the now defunct Molly Quinn’s Irish Pub which appeared to have a lone guest at the bar drinking by his lonesome in the darkened building. After Kimmy hopped in the car and made fun of the 80s style PBR hat, we headed straight for the Lake Street Garage.
After walking in, we immediately noticed the owner of Molly Quinn’s at the Lake Street Garage hanging out w/everyone at the bar. Strange enough…
We sat on the “other side”, a location Aaron was not familiar with as he’s usually there later when they close half of the bar down. We took a seat at a booth and enjoyed some excellent Guinness pours and decent food. I had a garlic, spinach, and pepperoni stromboli that was absolutely huge and VERY tasty. Kimmy had a substandard bacon and blue cheese burger that came w/only the blue cheese dressing and bacon — she was expecting the standard lettuce, tomato, etc. Nope. Aaron had a grilled cheese and quickly finished it off, I assume it was good ;)
After dinner Aaron took a classic photo of me in front of the truck that’s located in the “Garage”. We got some weird looks but I guess a super hairy guy flashing the shocker decked out in a Ms. Pacman t-shirt and a 80s PBR hat is a site to see ;)
Thanks again Aaron for dinner and the meownage hat as well as the experimental music experience. It was truly a bummer that the PS2 crapped out on the last track that included the famed “Buddylovin’ Meowcatpwnage” but I’m sure I’ll have my fill of it once I burn my own copy ;)
I must say that I prefer the Lake Street Garage to the failed Molly Quinn’s. While I’m a huge fan of a good menu (which MQ’s had) I’m not much of a fan of food that just isn’t all that great. The Lake Street Garage gave me a comfortable feeling while dining and the service was excellent. It was awesome being greeted in a friendly manner when we walked in as well as given a warm and seemingly heartfelt goodbye as we left.
Keep those Minneapolis bars/restaurants smoke free. I’m more likely to visit a smoke-free establishment in Minneapolis than I am a smokey hell in Apple Valley.

Now that it has new owners, I have to say their changes have not been for the better. They’ve taken away the free popcorn, added distasteful chips to their entrees (fries are still inexplicably extra) and they are apparantly ambivilent about whether they’re actually open or not. I just walked down there, at five minutes to noon, and the door was open but the place was deserted, the patio furniture still stacked in the dining room. Now, whether they open officially at noon or earlier doesn’t really matter. If the open sign is on and the door is open, then you should have definitive signs of life inside. Even the lights were turned off. If you open at noon, shouldn’t everything be ready to go, turned on and turned out, by at least a quarter till? Shouldn’t there be someone about making sure the place is ready? If this place doesn’t get its management act together they’ll go the way of Molly Quinn’s, another place that could have been good but was done in by terrible service.

Well i recently checked out this place and the staff was very friendly the food was excellent the servings were great, i showed up on a friday night and they even had karaoke that night i don’t know what this other guy was complaining about there was to a popcorn machine there, i would have to say that for a bar the food was better then most restaurants, They have an excellent menu selection and if you get the time try the Tacos from the appetizer menu, they are more like a baha style taco and good sized too.
