Kim and I made our way to St. Paul’s Lilydale Brickyard near Harriet Island for KC0GRN’s event.
We joined up with KC0GRN, mucluck, Diggin4it, King Boreas, Rouster!, and soon we were making the ascent to the clay pits to hunt some sea creatures.
I found a rather nice fossil, took a picture or two, and moved towards Kim who was hiking around near the waterfall on the other side of the clay pit. On my way there I had to be careful of slippery clay mud and easily breakable rocks. After taking some closeup shots of the waterfall I stepped ankle deep in the mud owning myself. I spent nearly 10 minutes trying to get down from the waterfall area and back to sturdy ground.
Soon after this we made our way to a nearby vista and watched in amazement as a fast moving storm changed the sky to a shade of green and the rain started pouring down.
s4xton, in the parking area below, notified me to “take cover” as hail was starting to fall. Kim and I were running the entire way and still ended up getting soaked to the skin.
On my way out of the parking lot, which was now turning into a mud pit, I suggested to s4xton that he best get out of the parking lot fast as it (and the roads leading to it) were flooding. Knowing the terrain and the condition of the roads during high water I headed for Harriet Island and up into St. Paul’s high ground.
Luckily we all made it out ok. What an adventure!
