I’m not a cat lover, in fact I despise them, but according to this article in the Pioneer Press, a man from Maple Grove took his displeasure for the little beasts a bit too far when he tortured and then severely injured another after making two others disappear.
After finding her kitten comatose when she returned from work an Eagan woman took her pet kitten to the vet complaining that it had issues using the litter box and was lethargic. The animal was eventually euthanized and a subsequent autopsy revealed head and kidney trauma. The Eagan woman felt that her boyfriend, 24 year old Ryan Wolcott, was responsible. The article states that Wolcott went so far as to dip his fingers in mace and then put his fingers in the eyes of a kitten before bashing it around a bit in a bathtub after he allegedly made two other cats owned by his girlfriend disappear.

Apparently the charges will only bring him a maximum of up to two years in prison. Do you think that the punishment fits the crime in this instance?

Not to minimize what he did with regard to pets, but at least he was caught before they had kids (hopefully). Clearly he needs psychological help. At least with a criminal record he will now be on the radar of law enforcement post-release. Also, it will be a red flag for future girlfriends – hopefully they ask about that two year gap in his life experience: “So, what were you in for?” “Torturing kittens.” “See ya!”

You don’t have to be a “Cat” lover to agree that this is a disgusting act. If someone can hit an animal, they will also hit another adult or child, and perhaps kill a human. If someone killed my cat, I would be as outraged if they killed my wife or child. I don’t buy into the whole an animal is not a human, thus should not carry the same responsibilites crap. You kill a cat, or another pet you should go to jail for a long long time.

Animal cruelty and child abuse are two examples of crimes that make me step out of my bleeding heart liberal mindset – if you hurt an animal or a child you deserve the same treatment in return. I also believe in capital punishment in homicide cases. Don’t tell Al or President Obama!

So, once upon a time, in a town where I once lived, there were these kids that did cruel shit like this to cats and other animals. While it disgusted many, most folks chalked it up to the “it’s just an animal” plus “boys will be boys” cliches and did nothing. These two freaks later grew up to kidnap a friend of mine, rape her, and leave her dead in the woods.
There’s a pathology here, one that ought not be ignored.

I sent Ryan a message on Myspace telling him that he was sick, and that i hoped he got a severe sentence. Here was his (charming) reply – “Well hello there, maybe we need to have a sit down and discuss this…where i come from I handle business face to face and not through cyberspace, so whenever you decide to man up then come talk to me, other then that you’d keep your mouth shut if ya knew what’s good for ya!!!”
No denial, just threats. What a guy!!

MW: Unfortunately, his response doesn’t surprise me. He, of course, fails to see the illogic of his statement about being a “man” compared to his actions toward a defenseless animal, which suffice it to say, a “real man” would never do. He doesn’t demonstrate any shame or remorse, just machismo, which seems to send a message that he (still) doesn’t see anything wrong with what he did.

Yeah, he is a piece of work. Go to his Myspace profile and look at his pictures. In the one featured as his profile pic, one of his friends is bragging about how in the picture they are “putting acid on mice that day and watching them sizzle? I remember those days. Lots of fun!”. This absolutely shows a pattern of animal cruelty behavior, and I hope the prosecutor takes that into consideration.
