You know, no one state that I have lived in (granted that’s only two others) has been as fucking absolutely ridiculous when it comes to driving fees than Minnesota.
First we have the cost of tags every year. That’s not anything out of the ordinary as PA has tags and you have to get your car inspected (which many people fail because of rust, poor breaks, whatever) but here in MN they charge you a tax rate based on some random value for your car that *they* create!
My 2002 Saturn SL (my previous POS car) was purchased (before trade) at $9999. What did MN tax me for? $12,650! I called and asked where they got this number from and told me “just because you paid $9999 doesn’t mean that’s what the car’s sticker price was.” Uhh, yeah, it was. I paid $5,100 for the car after trade. Keep trying… My yearly Minnesota tag tax was $128 for that car and I thought that was bad… My tags for the new 2005 Mazda3 are $198. Bleh!
Not only that, but you get a $1 tax if you want to avoid doing it by mail and pay online. You couldn’t pay online at all last year because their webserver had a security hole in it. Nice job fucktards. I guess we are paying for someone to do the web security stuff?
After tags you have the cost of getting your drivers license. It costs several dollars to get one, then it costs more to get your address changed (which is none of their fucking concern IMHO but is mandated by law and a $110 fine if you don’t), and then they charge you $22 when it expires (how the fuck it can expire on my birthday when I just renewed it two years ago with a new address makes no sense to me).
Not only do you have to renew the license for cost, they are the *only* state of those I’ve lived in (and my buddy Josh who just moved from GA) to *mail* you a new license. I got my first drivers license in 1995 and Pennsylvania was doing them on the spot then. Minnesota still has yet to catch up? YAY!
After that we have the County wheelage taxes which affect us and add an additional $5. Fuck ya!
Then you have the high insurance rates because of the minimum requirements for insurance in Minnesota. Nice!
So, all in all, we are fucked. We live in the suburbs where there is inadequate public transportation, we cannot get to Dakota County Jurty Duty, we have to wait for them to mail our drivers license to us, they get to make up random values for cars that we have to pay a tax on, and we have taxes out the ass.
I love it.

Thankfully I’m only here temporarily but in the short time I’ve lived here I absolutely HATE IT!! The drivers are so paranoid and sooo slow it’s pathetic!! They preach about safe this and safe that & the kicker is their sociopathic ways are actually making it far unsafer than it was ever suppose to be! Between the dumb drivers, asshole cops & stupid road system I don’t know which is worse.
I just got a speeding ticket for a situation which was totally not my fault. I had to speed up to get over & once i got over i slowed down & guess who shows up in my rear view mirror (to no surprise)? Your friendly neigborhood PIG!!
FUCK MINNESOTA & FUCK THEIR WAYS. China or Russia please bomb this state, PLEASE!!

Texas mails your license to you as well, along with passing vehicle inspection, emissions check, and annual “assessment” taxes based on value that the state assigns. South Carolina only has an idiotic property value tax on your vehicle (annually) but that’s because vehicle tax on any car is $300 no matter if you buy a ford taurus or a mercedes. Too bad the people that move to SC and bring their vehicle from out of state (like me) get hit with double taxation. Have fun squandering our money Uncle Sam.

Thanks for that insightful comment and link, Frankie Machine. While it wasn’t worth more than a chuckle, at least it gave me that.
