Well, my Sidekick II finally died. Well, sorta. The headset died and I was forced to use speakerphone in order to make the few calls that I do. It was finally time to make the upgrade to the sk3 something which I wasn’t really looking forward to doing because of the price ($374 before rebates/sale of the sk2).
I sold the sk2 on E-Bay on Sunday. It took 7 minutes from listing to Buy it Now ended the auction. Wow. I was expecting at least a couple of days w/the sk2 before I had to ship it.
So I was w/o a hiptop for 3.5 long ass days. You wouldn’t believe how much you rely on the Internet in your hand until you are without it for that long…
My woes started on Monday when I went to mail out the sk2. I usually just forward myself the winner’s mailing address and I check it when I get to the mailing location. Oops, no Internet… I call Kim, oops, don’t know her work number off the top of my head… Blah. I have to sit there and think for 10 minutes before it comes to me (and three wrong numbers) and finally I have her check my GMail account for the address…
Damn it, now I need a pen and paper because I can’t type a note w/the address. Ugh.
So the rest of the week I have plenty of opportunities to take photos, send e-mails and SMS, and chat while I’m on my way to/from work. Unfortunately SMS on the borrowed phone sucks. I even got an SMS from Aaron that said, “do you really want me texting you on the Nokia?” Uhhh, no.
So I’m back. Thank fucking god. The commute to practice was much easier this morning while chatting w/my mom. The commute from the pool to work wasn’t bad because I was catching up on my Slashdot and CNN stuff. Woot.
While some of the changes on the sk3 are going to take time to get used to, I really like the fact that the camera now supports EXIF data. I’ll be able to caption photos from e-mail/scripts because the filenames come in correctly and can be sorted by date. Woot.
The EDGE networking really doesn’t get fully taken advantage of w/the sk3 because of the proxy between the hiptop and the net. The proxy is what makes the sk3 rock (it reformats it properly for the sk3 screen) but only on larger page downloads will I see a difference in speed :(
Oh well, see all the pictures from today here and pictures from last weekend’s trip to Mantorville and the Apple Ridge Orchard here.
