While I’m not a fanatical enthusiast, I still consider myself a huge roller coaster fan and I have been to amusement parks all over the country (Michigan’s Adventure, Hershey, Dorney, Cedar Point, Kings Island, Disney World, Adventureland, Knoebels, etc, etc, etc) riding their roller coasters.
I, being the asshole I am, always thought that the only amusement park in Minnesota, Valleyfair, fucking sucked (and still do). They didn’t have enough roller coasters, it was too small, and the price was too expensive for what you got — thankfully I didn’t ever pay.
Valleyfair apparently opens tomorrow with a new wooden coaster named Renegade. With a whopping 91 foot drop () and a top speed of 52 mph (they always end up slowing the coasters down after their initial rating) its stats pale in comparison to some of the greats like The Beast (King’s Island), Shivering Timbers (Michigan’s Adventure), and the Mean Streak (Cedar Point).
This is certainly no show stopper for me and I would not pay to get in to ride this coaster. If I somehow scored free tickets I might be more likely to stop in and see it. I am traveling to Cincinnati over the 4th of July and will be heading over to King’s Island for some coaster action and I can’t imagine that after an experience at a somewhat real park (nothing comes even close to Cedar Point) I don’t think I’ll want to stoop down to the level of Valleyfair.

IMHO, Valleyfair gets away with their price to rides ratio because they don’t have any competition up here. The times I’ve gone I’ve been bored within the first hour and then annoyed with the long lines.
I’m not that much of a big roller coaster fan but my fondest memories are from Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay, FL as a kid. We went on a day where there were no crowds and you could get on the roller coaster as soon as you got off of it. I rode two of their roller coasters over and over again about 10 times, had a funnel cake, went on the Tilt-a-Whirl and proceeded to throw up while running to the bathroom. I don’t remember any other time where I had as much fun at an amusement park.
