Kim had ridden to and from Dakota County jury duty with a woman who highly recommened the World Buffet in Apple Valley for a great local asian buffet.
Other asian buffets in the area are less expensive (this was $9.75/person) but are MUCH smaller in both seating and buffet size! The World Buffet offers five buffet tables, one dessert table, and two mongolian BBQ tables. A varied assortment of food awaits from tame “sushi” to more americanized favorites such as mongolian pork and General Tso’s chicken.
I’m a huge fan of mongolian BBQs, so after an initial plate of “standard” americanized asian food, I heaped a plate full of raw veggies, beef, and various oils and cooking wine. Normally (at BD’s or Khan’s), you’re going to have a small bowl to fill up of veggies and meat — not at the World Buffet! No, you get a full sized dinner plate! I filled 50% up with beef and the rest with veggies, noodles, and sauce :) The cook manning the BBQ was happy to throw my mishmosh onto the hot tablet and twist and turn my raw veggies and meat into a tasty and spicy concoction of wonder :) I must admit that it wasn’t quite as good as BD’s Mongolian Barbeque or Khan’s but it was certainly close, offers a whole lot more, and I didn’t have to wait in a line three deep for my turn at the BBQ!
While I was pounding down my mongolian BBQ, Kim was whining that everything looked “slimy” (peel and eat shrimp are kinda “slimy” IMHO). I suggested that she fill up a new plate and come back so I didn’t have to watch her pick. She did and was still grumpy. She should have went with the BBQ ;)
If you’ve never been to the World Buffet in Apple Valley, I highly suggest trying it out. It’s worth it.

I’ve been reading your comments since I moved to the area - and I’ve taken your advice alot of times. I must admit 90% of the time, you and I are on the same page. Unfortuantely - we’re not on the same page with this one. I see your review is from over a year ago - but - after reading your review last night, my significant other and I went to World Buffet after doing our target grocery shopping. I thought it was gross. There were 2 rows of “American” food such as fried chicken, pizza, and macaroni. There was 1 row …of what Kim described as “Slimy” asian food. The sushi tasted VERY off! That is never a good sign. They BBQ (wok) guy was only there 1/2 the time so I didn’t have a chance to try this. My signifcant other filled up on crab legs…which also tasted….old/spoiled.
Yuck.

To be fair, I did post my review just under two years ago (1/6/06) and just like Stephano’s in Burnsville, apparently this place has also headed downhill :( Sorry that you had a bad experience there, especially after my suggesting that people head there, it’s certainly not something I wish on anyone — especially those that are new to the area.
Thanks a ton for keeping us abreast of what’s going on, I appreciate it :) If you are looking for the best asian food in the area, check out Satay2Go near Home Depot. We head there almost once a week and it’s certainly one of the best.
