Kim and I headed out to Acme Comedy Company in Minneapolis to see Kermet Apio perform as the headlining act.
Acme Comedy Company gives out a ton of free tickets for their weeknight shows. The easiest way to get six free tickets is to check their website during the month of your birthday and request your tickets. Kimmy hooked us up with six passes for this week and for next week. This week, Kim’s co-workers Andre and Kerry joined up with us.
We arrived early as we needed to be there before 7:30 to get our free passes and sat in the bar. We have eaten at the restaurant Sticks twice before but we were going for a cheap date tonight ;) We ordered their wings (not very good) and I had some beer. Andre, being a wonton connoisseur, ordered their $7 shitake mushroom wontons. He said they were “fucking shit” and the ones he gets downtown at four for a dollar kick the shit out of Acme’s. I guess you should stick to beer there ;)
The MC, Chuck Bartel, basically sucked. I guess I’m just not into his delivery method. The next guy, Ryan Hamilton is Sierra Mist’s ‘Next Great Comic’. He is one scary looking motherfucker. Imagine a cross between Chucky and Howdy Doody and you’ll get the idea. He was fairly funny… In fact, I thought he was more entertaining than the headlining act, Kemet Apio.
We weren’t offended by any of the content and we were never in that uncomfortable position of not knowing if you should laugh or not.
Next week’s headliner is Jackie Kashian. We look forward to seeing her perform next week.
