Yes, it’s that time again ladies and gents… Time for me to spend several days a week watching American Idol with Kim. This is by far the best and worst of American Idol all at the same time. Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson making fun of people left and right as they sing like shit on the TV for all of us sitting at home suffering through this.Philadelphia was the first stop and was filled with unbelievably bad (and sad) “singers” who would only sound good if you were sloshed at a bar and like karaoke (I don’t and there isn’t enough alcohol in the world to change that).
Well tonight there was a glimmer of hope. A young 23 year old singer from Allentown (made famous only by Billy Joel’s song) named Alexis Cohen. Alexis compared herself to Pat Benetar and Janis Joplin but Simon had the final comparison: Willem Dafoe.
Update! Here’s her segment via YouTube for those of you that weren’t lucky enough to have seen it the first time:

Alexis, her mom Mindy & dad George Cohen often visited Grandma Thelma who lived 3 doors away from my family in Queens, NYC. I have known Alexis since she was 5 years old (my 23 yr old daughter was her “some-time” playmate when Alexis visited)and from what I saw last night on Idol she hasn’t changed much over the years! Her mom has a beautiful, trained singing voice, but Alexis inherited her father’s voice and crude mannerisms. Unfortunately she is the product of two dysfunctional people who lacked basic parenting skills…..nurturing and compassion. She is screaming for recognition and any attention she gets, bad or good, is obviously better than NONE at all! She is sharp witted and has many hidden talents which are buried deep inside a child who was deprived of the social needs required to succeed as an adult. Behind all the make-up & glitz is a sad, misguided, angry little girl who is trying to get someone to notice who she really is….maybe someday her dreams will come true.

Yeah, for the people who have known Alexis I’m sure that is the case, it makes sense to someone who has met her. My girlfriend just took a community college class with Alexis and said that she was kinda weird and outspoken(in some ways irrelevant). But the main thing that she told me about the girl was that she LOOKED LIKE WILLEM DAFOE!!! The class agreed. Then for Alexis to go onto national television and for Simon Cowell himself to make the same observation just blew our minds. Hilarious. It’s a small world of like-minded people. But anyway, I hope her dreams come true and someone will notice who she really is. Best of luck to her, I hope we see more of her on tv! I’ve already seen her in an interview for the news, and EXTRA reported and showed clips from Alexis on a Makeover show to be aired soon. Can’t wait to see where this goes!

Why is it that the Internet draws, like a magnet, those who crave attention and the feeling of importance that have to state, pubically, that they know or knew someone famous?
To the person who signed their comment “I knew her when…” I suggest that you get yourself some psychological counseling.

What do you Know about Alexis Anyway? Isn’t it rude to put up personal information from a person from whom you haven’t seen for years? Isn’t it rude to say those things on national TV. Ms. Cohen Does not care for attention, She was insulted, The rage was most likely because Ms. Cohen did not want the camera crew exploiting her home, unless she was in fact going to Hollywood. The in home interview was done BEFORE the golden ticket was given. And Simon must have said things to Ms. Cohen that were unacceptable and edited. Shame On you All. Furthermore, Mr. Cohen is currently diseased, Didn’t the bible teach you to always respect thy mother and father, Watch Your tone on the Cohen Family. Do you not have anything better to do then exploit someone, you claim you knew 20 years ago?
