From the Star Tribune’s South Metro Police Blotter:
I have a feeling that it’s just as empty as the house:
Suspicious person. Near the 600 block of Sally Circle, officers working on a bank foreclosure task force found a safe under a doghouse in the back yard of a home. The drug task force wants to try and get it opened.
Drunken biking and carrying the beer: talent!
Underage drinking. An officer was standing next to his patrol car operating his hand-held radar gun when a boy rode past him on a bicycle. The officer noticed that the boy was carrying a 12-pack of beer under his arm. He stopped the bicyclist and found that he had also been drinking alcoholic beverages. The boy was issued a summons for underage consumption and possession of an alcoholic beverage and was released to a parent.

what does the first one have to do with a suspicious person?

They were suspicious when someone foreclosed on their home but had a safe buried in the backyard?

Oh i see, I’d be a mighty suspicious person, too… if I found a safe under a doghouse.

I swear that hiding something under a doghouse was a plot in a movie or a book but I can’t think of which one.

It’s sort of a good idea. If I was searching for something valuable in a house, I probably wouldn’t think to look under a doghouse…..

It was in a movie or book someplace, they had the safe under the doghouse and a mean ole dog protecting it. I dont remember which one though. One of the reacher novels maybe? Its the only thing I am sure we have both read.
I am curious though, we have police officers who are part of a “bank foreclosure task force”?

I wonder who the legal owner of the safe would be in that case. Would it be the bank, since they’ve assumed ownership of the house?

Did you get an address? Maybe they have some other good stuff buried?

the kid had a 12 pac, that’s one can for each year of age. for me, i’d need a wheelbarrow! and the coppers released him to good old mom or dad! sounds a little suspect to me.

American Gangster was the movie with money under the doghouse.

Gary, thanks. I seriously have been pulling my hair out trying to think of where it was from!

I’ve been hearing in our neighborhood of kids just walking in to open garages, nabbing beers from the ubiquitous MN “garage fridge,” then just casually walking away. Gotta close those doors, even if going inside for “just a minute” or working in the back yard, I guess.
