This Christmas, we were finally able to get out of Minnesota and visit some relatives. Last Christmas we were caught in the “Great Delta Debacle” that left us stranded in Minnesota :( Anyway, back in September, soon after returning from our honeymoon in Maui, I got some tickets (relatively cheap) from MSP to ABE (Allentown, PA) on US Airways. My father has off from Christmas to New Years so he was able to come pick us up at the airport (about 59 miles) without a problem.
After landing in Philly, there was a last minute gate change for our puddle jumper ride over to Allentown (15 minutes of flight time) and it was during this time that our bags were lost — along with 95% of the other passengers on board. We met up with my father, filed our claims, and made the trip to Clarks Summit.
Clarks Summit has changed quite a bit since I was last there in February of 2004… They know have such excellent eating establishments as the infamously horrible Waffle House and Vince the Pizza Prince’s Pizza Palace (which is actually built to look like an out of place castle in the middle of Clarks Summit).
My parents’ house was nicely decorated for Christmas (as it always is) and every year they add something new to the mix. This year, a family friend purchased a life-sized Mrs. Claus (animated head and hands) for my mother. It was a bit frightening to have an animated mannequin staring at you w/o blinking but I soon got over it.
We ate lunch, lounged around a bit, and wondered where our bags were. We went out to do some last minute Christmas shopping, grab some stuff at the grocery store, and headed back to the house to wait for the bags. Around 6pm we got a call that the bags would be there w/in two hours. We decided to wait for them to arrive before we headed out to dinner. They showed up around 7:30pm and I decided that it was then too late to go to “Twigs” in Tunkhannock so we settled on Damon’s in Clarks Summit.
The ribs and chicken were good (better than The St. Paul Ribfest’s ribs) but not nearly as good as the ribs at Montgomery Inn in Cincinnati ;)
After dinner my parents and Kimmy were beat so we retreated for the night. My parents, the thoughtful people they are, had no bed large enough for my wife and I so they purchased an Aero-bed knockoff from overstock.com that worked out VERY well. I was quite pleased with the comfort and airlevel (adjustable via remote control) and had no problems sleeping on it all weekend.
