Cuqui’s Cafe: Eagan, MN taken by Koszmo
Thanks to reader Koszmo, we have word of a new restaurant opening January 11th in Eagan: Cuqui’s Cafe. He writes:
Here is a photo of a new Eagan restuarant scheduled to open next Monday, it is located at Diffley and Robert Trail (Hwy 3). It is replacing Primo Cafe which lasted less than 2 years I believe. Never went to Primo Cafe and will probably never go here even though I live only a few miles away. The signs on the windows said all sandwiches $5.65. I already give a thumbs down based on name selection.
It says “flatbread paninis” on the window–talk about the #3 issue in the restaurant industry today, ugh.
I did the requisite digging and came up only with the usual Secretary of State filing. If you have any other information on this restaurant please feel free to chime in below.
Address:
Cuqui’s Cafe
525 Diffley Rd
Eagan, MN 55123

I immediately hate them for their font choice. Down with Papyrus!
January 7th, 2010 at 11:11 am
Better than Times New Roman or Arial.
I’ll have to stop by there when it opens, I drive by it every day.
Sorry I don’t have more information, just fluff.

The name annoys me. Is that pronounced “Sucky?” No?

SuckQuee?

ummm, i believe just to the left of q-q’s a store front or two, is a dispenser of beverages of an adult nature, the black diamond! i don’t believe the prices are too great, however, they have a awesome selection of beer’s. so, if you get shot down with q-q’s flat bread, you could pick up a sixer of some obscure german malt and wash down the left over crumbs.
with gusto:)

Don’t forget about Cooper’s and Trail Liquors. Plenty of booze to go around. I mean, in responsible quantities of course.

Cooqwees?
Kookeys?

I get my nails done at Rosy Nails in the same strip mall. I’ve been to Primo once and was not impressed. Just overall a general lack of personality there, so I’m hoping for an improvement with the new place.
Yes, BB Stacker, that liquor store is nice with their walk in cooler and decent variety to choose from. They are quite packed during their tasting events too.

All together now…
“C is for Sucky…that’s good enough for me…C is for Sucky….Sucky starts with C….”

MSPD; brilliant.
Cookie monster FTW!

Seriously, whats with the name.

100% destined for failure. Name: Maybe the worst I have ever heard and the location is pretty shitty. Cookies? Kookies? Qukeys? Qukays? WTF were these idiots thinking.

From the Urban Dictionary:
Cucui
Spanish for the bogeyman (pronounced Boogie-Man).
-The cucui is going to get you.
Will I eat someplace named after boogers? Answer: Do they serve spicy wings?

the owners name is Racquel, and her childhood nickname is Cuqui (pronounced like cookie)

I have a friend, now in his mid 30′s whose childhood nickname was Rat. I dont think it would make good business sense for him to open a dining establishment and call it Rat’s.
To each their own. I hope they do well.

Oh, but if he spelled it “Ratzzzz” that would be pretty radical, maybe a skate park or something like that. What does Rat like to do? Let’s make him a business plan. How does he feel about Coca Cola and goats?
February 24th, 2010 at 10:28 pm
Mrs Marcos, Rat and his contemporaries can be found in small town bars all over rural America, where sweaty, greasy guys who worked with their hands and backs all day gather and talk about things like trucks, guns, dogs, beer, snowmobiles, football, ex wives, and fishing. I dont know that we would get much mileage from presenting him with a business plan. Proposing a skate park might get earn you an odd look and some muttering about crazy city folk.
As for Coca Cola, I am sure he approves if its mixed with Jack. Goats would likely be the punchline to some joke from the aforementioned barroom conversations.
On that note, it just occurred to me that its sorta weird to have an alternative spelling for your nickname isnt it? I mean if you call a kid cookie, who sat down and decided to spell it cuqui? Sorry, that just weird.

I’ve eaten at Cuqui’s a number of times and it’s great! Rachel, the owner (yes, nicknamed Cuqui, and she’s as sweet as she can be) bakes from scratch and the sandwiches are wonderful. Last Saturday there was standing room only and the line went out the door. I’m sure she will do well. Sadly, the prior restaraunt was opened by a gentleman who died of cancer six months later.

This is a great spot, the owner is so nice and her sandwhiches are out of this world. I complained that she didn’t stay open late enough for me to pick up paninis for supper on the way home from work and now she’s open until 8:00pm! Give it a try! You can call your order and it’s ready when you get there!

I’ve been here several times and just recently had a Cubano sandwich. Didn’t know what to expect, but it was awesome. Cuqui’s cafe is always clean and the service is fast and friendly. I will recommend this place to anyone.
I don’t understand why anyone would leave some of the negative commments listed above. People should think twice about smearing someone’s name especially before that business has even opened their doors. I have met the owner, Cuqui (Cookie) and she is wonderful. I think the name is great and the food is too. The last thing we need around Eagan is yet another name brand food restaurant. Cuqui’s Cafe is anything but brand name and offers familiar items as well as specialized items at reasonable prices. Well worth your time to check it out.

I too think this place is wonderful and the owner really wants to give her customers a quality product. And ditto re the childish comments. I think she can do without the first posters’ patronage as well as the people who would listen to them. This is a quality establishment with great food that’s healthy as well as tasty. Good luck to them.

I too have been to Cuqui’s and highly recommend the Cuban. It a nice clean quiet place. Cuqui has always been there when I’ve gone and is always very pleasant and engaging. Take your laptop – it has wireless and good coffees.

We stopped at Cuqui’s today for the first and last time.
I had the breakfast burrito ($4.95). It was served rolled up in foil and placed in a plastic paper lined basket. It came with four grapes. It was just a little bit better than a McDonald’s breakfast burrito.
My companion had a steak sandwich. The edges of the bread were too hard to eat.
The service was fine other than we asked for our coffee in mugs and got paper cups. We did not mention the error. I’m sure she would have changed it but we waited so long for the coffee to be brewed that we were ready to leave by the time we got it.
I’m not sure why the front door was propped open. It’s about 50 degrees outside and the leaves were blowing in.
Our bill came to nearly $20 with coffee and a bag of potato chips (as fries are not an option). Not a good value.

we were there several weeks ago. warmer than what ozzie experienced as we sat out in back with the boxelder bugs. we just got the basic cubano with shoestring potatos. it was about 2pm and we were the only ones there. i don’t know what it’s like over lunch hour. i guess i’d call it so so.

Ate here a while ago, the sandwich was honestly really really good, but the portion to price ratio just wasn’t there. I like the sandwich, but not enough to use what money this poor college student has for a very small sandwich.
Also the breakfast burrito was extremely disappointing. I dragged my brother down there to try the place, he got the burrito and I felt really bad for him

I’ve eaten their sandwiches a number of times and think they are pretty good. My biggest compliant is their hours. I don’t think they are open Sundays, which sucks.
I also know she was trying to sell the place at one time…not sure if that is still the case or not. I’m not sure how well it is doing, as every time I go, it is basically empty.

I noticed this morning that they are now closed.
