I rarely post about political stuff on this site because, for the most part, I’m uninterested in putting up with the unending barage of comments that are aimed at whining about how I word stuff. This week, however, I’m in a different mindset mostly because of the whining/bitchy old bags that flooded my website due to my Taylor Hicks/LMBO post.
Anyway, on to the fleecing of Dakota County… An article in Thisweek Online talks about Dakota County’s new Wheelage Tax:
Through the wheelage tax, Dakota County vehicle owners will be charged the state maximum allowed by law, $5 per-vehicle, for their license tabs beginning in January.
County officials estimate they will obtain $1.5 to $1.7 million through the tax, however, state law requires the county’s county road and bridge transportation levy be reduced by the same amount realized through the tax.
“If you only ride transit and are not a vehicle owner, you don’t pay the tax,” he said.
Pulkrabek said that probably 98 percent of citizens own at least one vehicle.
Ok, I assume that their theory is that 98% of their residents own a car and that means $$$ for them. There is no fucking way out of this, you see, because just about every single city in Dakota County, is completely transit isolated from the rest of the suburbs. In other words, they are taxing people for not working in downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul. Real fucking smooth!
According to the article, the County Commissioners apparently offered no concrete ideas as to what they are going to use their newfound tax dollars for:
County Administrator Brandt Richardson said to commissioners, “We are assuming in this presentation that you will treat this as new revenue in the long run for transportation purposes and that’s why you’re doing it. That’s our assumption.”
Awesome! Our County is approving something that they have no idea what it’s being used for. Yay! Great job you worthless fucks! I’m *so* glad you are in office.
I have complained before about Dakota County and their retarded behavior with their purchase of Dodge Chargers to “save money” and the fact that there is no mass transit to the Dakota County Courthouse and because I’m in a giving mood tonight, I’m actually going to do more than just rant.
So, I have some suggestions for the Dakota County Commissioner douchebags:
- Use the money to pay for people who need to get a ride to the Dakota County Courthouse in Hastings because it puts an undue hardship on their family when they are doing “the right thing” and owning only one car. That would mean about $40/person per day for taxi service to and from Hastings for those people that have a hardship in getting to jury duty. Hell, just give it to everyone in Dakota County who has jury duty in Hastings. Afterall, taxes are supposed to support the citizens, right?
- Use this tax money to relocate the majority of Dakota County Courthouse business to the Apple Valley Dakota County Service Center instead of Hastings. At least then the majority of people in the County would have easier access to the Courthouse. The bulk of people in the County don’t live in the cornfields of Rosemount and the riverbanks of Hastings.
- Give *all* the tax money to the MVTA and fund the State’s “administrative fees” out of the Commissioner’s own pockets so that there are reduced fares, more routes (including weekends), and possibly even realistic transit times to other suburbs! This would create less of a demand for Dakota County Residents to own as many cars, the tax wouldn’t be as beneficial to the douchebags that thought it up, and then the Commissioner douches will realize how fucking retarded this all is and they won’t bother to go through with it.
I make entirely too much sense. I really should run on the Anti-Douchebag Platform.
