After closing up the Fall Colors poll (which had the smallest response rate yet), I hope that this one gets a bit better participation as I’m honestly interested in seeing how many people recycle their electronics. Josh has already given me my next idea which will come up next Monday. If you have any suggestions for future polls, post a comment or send me an e-mail :)
This weekend I packed my car full of numerous items including three TVs, two computers, etc, etc, etc and my wife and her cousin shuttled it all off to the Dakota County Recycling center to be disposed of properly. We have never recycled electronics before but I was wondering how many of you have done it… It seemed fairly easy, aside from the 20 minute one-way drive but we weren’t used to it as growing up there were collection days where you put that shit out on the curb and junk collectors or the city would come by and nab it all for you. I assume that it was originally destined for the landfill but I really don’t know.
The choices are limited to “Yes”, “No”, and “Maybe” which I have left open enough for you to choose what they mean to you such as “I left my Mac Classic on the curb and some guy came to pick it up and use it as a fish tank so I consider that recycling.” ;)

My old electronics have always gone on to be hand-me-downs, or I’ve taken them apart and distributed the video card here, the memory there, etc. Or, I’ll drop them off at a 2nd hand store, but I’ve never actually taken them to a recycling center.

Ang, I have done the hand-me-down and/or divide and conquer thing a lot myself but this is the first time that I’ve gone so far as to clear the house out. I have been accumulating entirely too much shit and it’s just not worth it to spread the love anymore. No one wants my old computer shit ;-)

“Yes”
Hennepin county residents can drop off 5 items per year free of charge, btw.
