Last week’s poll about the Super Bowl was a close race with those true to the game winning out but with “Avoid” right behind. I was really surprised by the low number of votes in favor of the commercials. If you would listen to the media, those that aren’t interested in the game, just watch it for the commercials. Sounds like a bunch of self-serving bullshit to me ;-)
Anyway, this week’s poll is to determine what content that I frequently post here is a favorite of my readership. While I can’t promise you that I will change the posting habits I have based on this poll but I will see what I can do to bring you the content the majority are here to read. After all, it’s not any good for me to be posting shit that no one really cares about ;-)
So, the options for this week’s poll are “Food Reviews”, “Local News”, “Police Calls”, “Polls”, “Other”. If you choose “Other”, please do post a comment below to explain, ok? :) If you want to go into more detail about the others, feel free. I’d really like to hear what kind of food reviews, local news, etc that you like to read most often. While I have a great idea of what brings most people here for the first time, the regular readership keeps me guessing. So, please do comment on and let me know what’s on your mind!

After you do all of that, be sure to check out our expired polls in the archive or read through the previous posts about polls here.

I started coming here for the food reviews/discussion on local restaurants but I’ve come to appreciate the local news/government info and the personalities here in comments. “Other” vote for me = “everything”. Well, except the chat about books…I’m not much of a reader.

I’m going to campaign for more local news. Who needs restaurant reviews? Nobody is eating out anymore anyway right?

I read your local news coverage, but tune out when you go on the tirades. I don’t believe the antichrist is building a government-sponsered Temple of Baal in the south suburbs. I’ve stopped reading your resturant reviews because I fit you in during “morning break” (when the rest of the office shuffles off to smoke), and with 2 hour before lunch I couldn’t take it.

Put me down as a local news vote, too. I also am not much of a gourmet – mostly a burger guy, with a nod to pizza, and maybe an occasional latte’, or stir-fry. It’s too bad you live in AV – I’d love to read your opinions on what happens in H-town, where I reside, I am always amazed at the idiocy on the part of the City Council, and their ability to allow 2-3 people dictate what happens in our little river town. Oh, BTW – we’re getting a new bridge – so, MDOT, Dakota County, Washington County, the Feds and our local Council will be involved – should be very entertaining!
Cheers,

I’m with MSPD with “other” = everything. I started reading because of the local news postings, then started reading the food reviews too (what got me hooked on those was the string and comments associated with Raising Canes – hilarious, plus I learned a new word/concept “astroturfing”, and I’m one that likes to learn something new every day). It’s not often nowadays when you can listen/watch/read a news source and can say out loud “you got that right.” I found myself thinking it often when reading either a posting by Bill or a comment from someone else. Frankly, I enjoy Bill’s tirades, because they aren’t so off base to what we’re talking about at the dinner table (except cleaner language around the kids of course – the expletives are substituted with pauses or parkinsonian-like head shakes ;) with regard to local government decisions, crime, telemarketing, etc).

Love the local news however do love food too. I kinda agree with Kim. Eating out is really getting expensive. Maybe we can share some good “tried and true” recipes.

Will,
Here’s my favorite recent addition to the cookbook that resides in my head: oven baked onion rings.
Made them for Kim last night alongside turkey burgers topped with sauteed mushrooms and provolone and she loved them — especially dipped in ranch. Mmm.
Just a FYI: the recipe seems to call for a lot more breadcrumbs and egg whites than we really needed. YMMV.

. Bill, Stop IT!!……. I haven’t had lunch yet…… just checked those onion rings out and they look and sound fantastic……. spend alot of time in the kitchen ever since quiting smoking 5 years ago. Have put on almost a gazillion pounds, not quite, but food certainly tastes dam good.

Bill, just finished making the onion rings……… reduced the cayenne by half. The sauce was part heinz cocktail sauce and miracle whip (wanted a slight horseradish taste). These reminded me of Sonics rings, which I do like. Thanks for the recipe.

I doubled the cayenne and didn’t notice any flavor although my cayenne is a little old so maybe it has weakened with time.

I’m here for the roller derbee drama. The minor armageddon on the NSRG versus MNRG post was beautiful.

I’m here because I like the snarky commenting. The restaurant reviews brought me here and that and everything else keeps me coming back. I like the books section too. As an avid reader myself I enjoy reading others comments and recommendations about books.
