Met with Stacy from Lancer Catering at the Minnesota Zoo to do a taste test of some of our food for the wedding.
The salads were good (raspberry vinaigrette or mandarin orange) and we chose the mandarin orange as it had a ton of different flavors and textures going on. The raspberry vinaigrette was nice with the fresh berries but the flavor was non-existant.
The chicken dishes were marsala with rosemary, roasted veggies, and buttermilk mashed potatoes. The other was chicken with sun dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts along with glazed baby carrots and roasted red potatoes. Both included button mushrooms. We ended up choosing the marsala as I was less than impressed with the sundried tomatoes and artichoke hearts.
Cake tasting was actually not as good as I had hoped. We tasted the top five cake maker’s flavors but none really made me go “woot!”. We could have asked to find out their other flavors and even tour their factory… In the end we decided on a chocolate rapsberry and a vanilla raspberry which were ok but certainly not even close to spectacular. Perhaps the cake will be better at the wedding?
The room is really nice as it’s filled with aquariums stocked to the gills (har) both closed and open. I just hope no drunk guests fall into the shark tank!
