Our final planned item was a lei making class offered by the hotel in the lounge. Kim had purchased several leis during our stay and was very interested in making one of her own. Originally I hadn’t planned on taking part but after they included me on the bill I decided to give it a try.
They piled a bunch of flowers on our table and handed us a long needle with a thread attached. We were to remove the stems and then thread the needle through the hole at the base of the open flower. You continued in that manner for all 60 to 75 flowers and then tied off the ends.
Easy enough with a great result!
For dinner we went to Reilley’s Steak and Seafood for dinner. I ordered their standard Filet Mignon (they had three different filet dishes) along with some scallops for an appetizer. Kim ordered their bacon wrapped and crab stuffed shrimp.
They supposedly have the largest selection of single malt scotch on the island (6). I wasn’t impressed.
They are located on both Maui and Hilton Head Island but we’ve never eaten at that location.
I was reminded of American Psycho when my scallops came out. Two? Two fucking scallops for $9? You have to be joking right? They weren’t. The scallops were joined with some sort of salad and peas? The salad greens were ok but the peas tasted like a harsh chemical. Ugh. At least the scallops were tender and nearly free of grit. I wonder if the waiter was surprised when he saw that I ate 90% of the extra shit on the plate?
Well, all my reservations leading up to the filet mignon were dispelled after the first bite. Quite possibly the most incredible piece of meat I’ve ever eaten. Tender, spicy, and perfectly cooked (medium rare but more on the side of rare).
Kim’s shrimp were huge and full of flavor. She couldn’t finish them all so I ended up with one. Yum.
The service was pleasant and freiendly, even if the waiter did resemble Herman Munster. It was a bit pricey for our tastes but whatever — so’s everything on Maui :)
I’ve eaten a lot of Filet Mignon in my days but this was by far the best.
