I believe Kautz was the Chair of the STA and the folks that decided not to press the issue were her subordinates. This may explain some of the odd behavior. Kautz does not like her subordinates questioning her decisions.

What would it cost Burnville residents to relocate Grendahl to Burnsville before the next election for Mayor and get her to run for Mayor in Burnsville?

I dont know how it normally works, but it sure sounds like she should have recused herself at the very least. I dont understand why there is a board that recommended one thing (firing them) and then someone else who actually ignores the board and retained them.

I'm glad that Grendahl put the issue out in the open so that at least the voters know about some of the inner workings of the organization. The same should go for other elected officials. So much of this stuff goes on and voters NEVER hear about it. Although, certain conflicts can be resolved within an elected council/committee, etc., without having to go to the press, so long as they are resolved in such a way to do what's best for the community. Here, Grendahl's concerns were not addressed, and it appears the committee had its reasons for not recommending re-hiring of this law firm, including issues with the firm responding to the organization's needs in a timely manner, apparently. Kautz should have recused herself from the vote and avoided even the appearance of impropriety. In not doing so, she opened herself up to criticism. I think her response ("I didn't make the motion") was weak. She never should have voted on the motion after it was made. Kudos to Grendahl for showing this issue the light of day, and opening this board's actions to public scrutiny - some voters may say its no big deal, and others will disagree, but at least we get to know about it and decide.

Reward your friends and punish your enemies. What is the purpose/role of this law firm anyways? Let's just go ahead and fold up the MVTA and throw it in the garbage.
