On Sunday morning my wife and I woke up to rumbling stomachs. We were both in the mood for breakfast but with a fridge devoid of decent breakfast foods, I put myself on a mission to find a traditional, non-chain breakfast serving restaurant in the South Metro that we have never been to before. After much failed searching on the web I remembered Harry’s Cafe in Lakeville, a place that I have wanted to get to for quite some time but never had the opportunity. After checking their website out and determining that they do, in fact, serve breakfast on the weekends we were off.
We arrived just after they opened at 9:15. The place is cavernous and looks like it can seat 300+ people. It has a nice open and airy feeling to it with a great view of all the work that goes on in the kitchen. There were only two or three tables taken up in the entire restaurant which made me wonder about how the food was going to be. With several online reviews rating the food as mediocre at best, I have to admit I was a bit concerned.
Our waiter was prompt and delivered the large diner-like menus to the table and took our drink orders. As we perused the menu, he went back to preparing silverware and napkins with another server in front of the kitchen. The menu, as I mentioned, is extensive and reminds me of many of the roadside diners along the East Coast. While not covering quite the range that many of those do, there were plenty of items to pique your interest. We were only there for breakfast but I am interested in returning for dinner at a future time as the prices seem reasonable and some of the entrees definitely look like things I could hack.
My wife and I both chose traditional breakfast items. She went with a breakfast sandwich and I went with the Farmer’s Breakfast. Both came with eggs, bacon, toast, etc just organized in different ways. The breakfast items come with the choice of free OJ or mimosa and when entrees are priced in the $6/7 range, this is a definite deal.
After only a few minutes our entrees arrived and looked good. My eggs were cooked perfectly and were of a good size. The bacon looked fantastic and was definitely done to my liking (crispy but not burned so the meat was still somewhat pliable). My wife’s sandwich came out on a soft roll that soaked up the eggs as she ate. Both meals were served with what was described as “creamy” hash browns which were just your typical cheese-added potatoes but were both tasty and definitely “creamy”.
Overall I enjoyed my breakfast at Harry’s Cafe in Lakeville. The service was excellent, the food was above average for the area, and the prices were dead-on and affordable. While it’s no corner cafe, it did the trick for us and is a place I’d return to if I was looking to avoid the typical South Metro chain restaurant breakfast options closer to our home.
Have you ever eaten at Harry’s Cafe in Lakeville? If so what did you think and what did you order? Breakfast seems like something new there so I’m especially interested in knowing what you thought of that. Harry’s also seems like it has a really nice sized bar area with plenty of beers on tap and seating available. Is it a decent place to catch sporting events?

Ryan and I ate dinner there a few months back (after ditching Porterhouse due to their limited-selection menu). I remember thinking it would be great to take our nephews there as the decor is pretty fun.
If I remember correctly, I got the patty melt with a veggie patty. It was incredibly filling and I could not finish it all. I cannot recall what Ryan got, but he really liked it (whatever it was!)

I can’t believe this was your first trip to Harry’s! Working down in the south metro my coworkers and I go there a lot for lunch and I’ve tried something new almost every time and haven’t been disappointed yet.
You guys definitely need to go back for lunch or dinner sometime.
