Last week’s poll asked where you get your recipes from. While I have used any number of sources (family, friends, web, etc) to get recipes to make at home, I most often find myself looking through the web to do so and based on the results of the poll most people here do as well. I loved seeing the suggestions from others and have added a few to my RSS reader to ensure I don’t miss any decent recipes coming up in the future. NOM!
This week’s poll comes after a few crazy weeks of seemingly not enough sleep and too much work. It’s been busy around here lately. Between my last class for school, even more work to do at work and more travel than I am used to, I have been tired as can be. Some nights I passed out at 8 PM and didn’t wake up until 7 AM when the kids were starting to stir. While I have always been a “needing 8 hours” sleeper, I have also been able to jump out of bed as soon as the alarm sounded–especially if I had some place to be. However, lately, I have found myself using snooze more and more–something I need to avoid doing. In the past I would move the alarm out of arms’ reach so I couldn’t simply just roll over and turn it off but now with sleeping kiddos who I wish not to awaken any earlier than they want to get up, it’s harder to do that without risking screaming at 7 AM. Boo!
What sort of alarm person are you? Do you wake up naturally? Do you wake up as soon as the alarm goes off and you’re ready to go? Do you use snooze over and over again (intentionally or not)? Do you have a solution to the problem I’m having with the kids and the alarm having the potential to wake them up? Whatever you have to say go ahead and vote on the sidebar and then comment on below. After you do both of those things feel free to check out our expired polls in the archive or read through the previous posts about polls here.

I used to use an alarm more but since moving and moving the dog’s bed/chair into our bedroom she’s is generally the alarm because she “needs her breakfast now”.
I’ve never gotten into the habit of using the snooze button most likely because as a kid and all through my years living at home my alarm clock was not within reach from my bed. I had to get up to turn it off and after that there was no going back to bed for me.

I’m a toss up..
The days I have to get up to get into the office, I do have an alarm at 0520, just because I work out first thing in the AM. Otherwise, I’m usually somewhat awake, mainly because I’ve gotta leak, but can’t muster up the motivation to leave the warm bed.
Days I work from home, I don’t need an alarm, I just wake up once light comes in the windows. Weekends, meh. I’m up when I’m up, which is usually about am or so.. I then choose to stay up or go back to snooze-land.
Rarely do I hit the snooze on the alarm.. If I do, it’s some random Monday where I don’t really care to deal with Monday yet..

It’s not very often that the alarm wakes me up. Week days I set it for 5:00, I seem to wake up at about 4:15. Which frankly sucks. Weekends I also wake up about 4:30 or so, but I seem to be able to roll over and go back to sleep for another hour or two. Most mornings I am able to pop out of bed with no trouble ready to go.

I set my alarm at least 30 minutes before I actually need to be up so I can hit snooze at least three times. Then I usually hit it four times and need to rush to get to work on time. I also have to set alarms when I take naps. On weekends if I have to be somewhere before noon I’ll set an alarm otherwise risk the chance of oversleeping. Though I find as I get older I wake up earlier naturally, like at 10 am or so, even when I’m up until 4 or 5am.

It has changed for me. I used to always hit the snooze button three or four times before actually getting up, so I set my alarm for about 45 minutes before I needed to get up knowing that I would do that. Now, I have a job where I get up at the same time every day. I wake up before my alarm goes off on most days. Sometimes it is an hour before. I hate that! Too late to go back to sleep, too early to get up. I like that I wake up without my alarm. Then I have a chance to wake up slowly rather than having to be jarred from sleep into immediate action to get to work. I can appreciate this because that is how I used to be. I generally wake up at the same time on my days off, but it is very easy to go back to sleep.
Today, I woke up at 5:20 am, knew I didn’t have to get up, went back to sleep. Then I got up at 8:00, made fried potatoes with onions, ham and scrambled eggs. Had a bloody mary with it. I have been online for a little while and intend to take a nap next. This is the best way to wake up!!! I can’t wait to be retired! If I live that long and can afford to do it.

I have my computer in my bedroom, on the other side of the bedroom. I have an alarm clock widget on that which starts playing iTunes, and it gets louder & louder until it’s at full volume (in about 10 seconds or so). Never fails to wake me up right away.
Too many times, though, I’m up before that ever has a chance to wake me up.

Usually wake up before the alarm and usually ready to go for the day. Happiest in the morning grouchy at night, married to the opposite. We figure retirement ( if we ever get there) will have the perk of being able to be together in the mid afternoon where we both should have the same energy and happiness levels!

I use the vibrate setting on my phone and never hit snooze. M-F I’m up at 6:30 a.m. On Saturday I set it for 8 and on the rare day I get to sleep in, I’m up at 8 at the latest. I sleep with my blinds open to let the sun act as a natural alarm too.
I’m in bed by 10 p.m. most nights. 8.5 hours seems to work for me.
As for your question: Do you have a solution to the problem I’m having with the kids and the alarm having the potential to wake them up?

Can you stick the alarm under your pillow to muffle it? Do they sleep in the same room or could you close your door? Could you use your phone on vibrate like I do? Mine’s a basic LG one.

One of the best inventions has been the alarm clock that slowly increases it’s noise over time. Much less stressful to wake up to.
When I’m really tired, I won’t walk up until the sound is at full blast. But normally I’m up with the slightest peep of the alarm. If I’m really out of it, i’ll actually turn off the alarm when it goes off, but not consciously recognize I did it. Then I’m late to work. Only has happened about 4 times ever usually after enough work that keeps me busy for a couple weeks with less than 7 hours of sleep most nights.
Always have needed a buzzer to wake up, could never do music. Mostly due to when I was a youth I’d fall to sleep with music, so it doesn’t work to wake me up.
If I wake up before the alarm, I’m usually disappointed because it never seems worth it to go back to sleep for an hour, or 45 minutes or whatever.

I have a 5 month old.

On weekdays, I am pretty good about getting up with my alarm (six AM most days). I may hit snooze once, but never more than once. I try to give myself plenty of time to get ready in the morning since I hate having to rush.
On weekends I don’t set my alarm unless there’s somewhere I need to be in the morning. As such, I typically sleep for 7-8 hours until I wake up naturally, get up to take the dog out and feed him, then go back to bed for a while. I’m rarely up for the morning until at least nine on weekends, sometimes even ten.

I have to admit, the preview of the comment by ks on the sidebar of the home page that was abbreviated to: “I use the vibrate…” sort of made me tune into this conversation.
I’m up at 6 every day no matter what the circumstance. I don’t use a clock, just leave my shades up.

i guess we’re all creatures of habit, in leftys case, just a creature:)
in my previous life, the work schedule was either 5am to 1pm, 6-2 or 7-3. i had a preference and it was 5-1. that being said, my alarm was set at 0345 most of my working career. nowadays when i’m not a slave to the clock, i wake up early without a alarm, 6 ish but it’s my choice, should i, or shouldn’t i!

To each their own, ks. I don’t judge.

I need an alarm to wake up and usually set two (as I’m a chronic snooze button-er and have accidentally turned my alarm off one too many times). Also, since I switched the cat to wet food, he’s been excellent at being extra obnoxious when my alarm goes off so that I’ll make sure to not oversleep.
This comment was just a clever way to let you know that my cat is a bastard.
