Jensen’s Cafe: Burnsville, MN

Well, to celebrate Kim and I’s birthdays (her’s was Saturday and mine was Sunday), we met up with Aaron and Chuck at Jensen’s Cafe in Burnsville for breakfast before the guys headed out for some caching.

We had eaten at Jensen’s Cafe prior to caching back in early November and according to Aaron, we met at the same time, were seatted in the exact same spot, ate nearly the same things, and enjoyed it just as much. Kim fucked everything up by being there and I fucked it all up by ordering something different. Aaron said that Kim can only come every other time now to keep the universe in balance.

I hate the Santa-Fe chicken which was spicy and quite good. Kim had the Eggs Benedict, which I raved about last time, but said they weren’t the best she’s ever had. Aaron had the strawberry pancakes and Chuck enjoyed his favorite, Huevos Rancheros.

The service was slow, as it was the last time, and we got a chuckle over Jensen’s flyer on the table (and sticker on the door) that said they were nominated for “Best Breakfast in Burnsville” by AOL CityGuide. Like anyone gives a fuck about that?! The South-Metro’s food review source is right here at lazylightning.org!

It’s a great neighborhood Cafe. It’s a place where you and your family can enjoy breakfast and lunch. The staff is very warm and welcoming. Then for dinner go to Jensen’s Supper Club.

Out at Jensen’s Cafe with Aaron and Chuck for a pre-caching breakfast.

In my various travels around the South Metro, I’ve passed by Jensen’s numerous times but due to their inconveinient hours (7:00am - 2:30pm, 7 days a week) I’ve never been able to actually get in there to check out what they’re like. Aaron and I had talked earlier in the week about hitting Jensen’s at 7am and then caching Paklid’s Alphabet Series caches the rest of the day. I asked Chuck if he wanted to join up with us and he was all up for their Huevos Rancheros ;)

I arrived late because I couldn’t find my GPS even though it was on my person. Too many pockets, don’t ask ;) The wait staff was very friendly and took our orders soon after my arrival. Our drinks came quickly and I was very pleased to sip some of their fresh squeezed OJ. Mmm. The coffee was ok and we enjoyed the chat while waiting for the food to arrive.

Now, the place wasn’t exactly what I would consider “busy” for a Sunday morning yet it took quite a bit of time for our food to arrive. I enjoy well cooked food but 20+ minutes for breakfast is a bit much IMHO. The food itself was fantastic. I had ordered their Eggs Benedict and found them to be strangely spicy but very filling. It appeared that they made the “muffin” underneath from scratch which was a nice touch. Aaron had their strawberry pancakes and Chuck went with the Huevos Rancheros as I stated above.

Everyone was quite pleased with their meal and the fact that there was such abundant free parking for us to use to carpool throughout the day.

While I only tried one dish myself, based on the reports of both Aaron and Chuck about theirs, I will be back with Kim (the breakfast food loving girl herself) to try it out again. For now, it’s certainly a recommended location from me!

Why only 1 piece of toast? It really ruins the breakfast.

One piece of quality oat bread is plenty of carbs for the morning intake. This place is about the protein! Omelets, scrambles, and thick cut bacon. Give Panera Bread a try!

How could one slice of toast ruin breakfast? Ask for another, did you think of that? If one slice of toast would ruin breakfast, I would suggest to this person to get a life (or go to BURGER KING)!
