Kim, my college roommate Josh, and I will be heading down to the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Lake Red Rock Recreation Area in Knoxville, IA (near Pella, IA) for a weekend camping trip in June. Lake Red Rock is Iowa’s largest lake (and as you can tell by the map, it is quite large).
I had geocached in the area back in March on our way home from onroe-city-mo">MOGA 2007 and at that time decided that it was definitely gorgeous enough to warrant another trip back with Kim.
We made reservations at the North Overlook campground and I was shocked to see the price for two nights being only $32 with no hidden parking fees, car fees, etc. I have camped at two US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds before (during MOGA this March and back in October of 2005 at Gull Lake Recreation Area) and found them to be much cleaner, nicer, and offering more amenities (including far more wooded campgrounds) than the Minnesota State Parks that I have camped at.
We’ll be spending the weekend drinking, playing bean bags, probably some geocaching, and maybe even some boating.
I always look forward to camping and I’m really excited about camping at this location.
