Well we got a flier in the mail a couple of days ago about Kowalski’s Markets’ Holiday Open House at their Lakeville location November 18th - 20th. They were advertising that there would be free samples and live food demonstrations located throughout the store.
We arrived about an hour before it was supposed to end today (11/18) and found most of the stations empty or not ready for consumption. The stops that did have food available had long lines and by the time you got to the front the food usually was gone.
Out of the twenty-four items listed in their mass mailing flyer only nine were available (ten were placed throughout the store but one wasn’t manned at all). Why bother to advertise so heavily only to have it not be ready at the busiest time of the evening?
You get what you pay for I suppose :)
Of the items available, I really enjoyed Kowalski’s signature Chicken Parm. It was very tender and inexpensive. I wouldn’t buy it myself as I like my own homemade sauce but if I was in the sudden mood for a quick snack it might work :)
While they didn’t have any more samples than they usually offer, it did give me a reason to pick up some extra stuff for dinner. Yum Spanikopita!
I’m sure Kim will want to go tomorrow before the wedding we have to go to. They seem to have more interesting items on the list. Hopefully they’ll actually be available to try. I’ll keep everyone updated :)

Just an FYI
I worked that holiday open house that day at Kowalski’s and it was VERY!!!! busy. Infact we actually had almost tripple the people cpme through the door compared to the number of flyers we sent out. We did not expect such a big turn out. Please keep in mind that it was an hour before it was schuled to be over and we ran out of some of the product do to the volume of people. You can be sure we will be better prepared next year.
just thought i would let you know

Kowalski’s is nearly dead every single day I go in there. I really hope it stays open as some of their offerings are excellent (especially in the deli) but I just cannot see how it would be possible for them to be turning a profit :(
Good luck with this year’s open house.
