We started out our day in Lahaina which is an area full of seaside shopping and eating. Even though most of the places were closed this early in the day we still made it through quite a few shops and ended up with a bunch of purchases including a pearl necklace for Kim and some t-shirts for friends/family.
After we left Lahaina, we headed for a nearby geocache and benchmark which were off of a road at the base of a moutain in front of a deep valley. The views of both the mountains and the ocean were incredible.
We were planning on taking a trip to the Maui Winery but due to the timeframe we knew we wouldn’t make it so we decided to take a side trip on part of the famous Hana Highway and look for the infamous surfing location, Jaws. While we never did end up finding access to Jaws, we did locate a hidden gem of a vista at the end of a residential road. The guardrail parted and a trail appeared that led all the way down to a rocky beach. We stayed up top and took some gorgeous photos.
On our way back, through the rain, we stopped at the Twin Falls which are located on private property that’s open to the public. Kim wasn’t feeling well and with all the rain she asked that we only take the short hike to the lower falls. It was still worth it! We then took a break at Baldwin Beach Park for another cache that I didn’t end up locating but the walk along the beach and over the sand dune was gorgeous!
We made our way back into Lahaina and ate at Cheeseburger in Paradise. We had a table right next to the windows on the second floor which offered an incredible view of the ocean and the setting sun. The food was good (I had to eat a Cheeseburger in Paradise while Kim chose their Calamari sandwich) and so was the Kona Golden Ale. Mmm.
