Our last day on Maui was a fairly busy one. After checking out of the hotel we headed for CJ’s Deli and Diner to pick up their famous boxed lunches. Because we are leaving we are utilizing our own cooler bag instead of their reusable/returnable coolers.
Kim got a roast beef and provolone on white and I got a roast beef and swiss on rye. They incluide a drink, fruit, a brownie, and chips. Not bad for $10/person.
After leaving with our coolerbag full, we stopped at a popular wayside rest along Route 30 and headed down a rough trail to the edge of cliffs and took some gorgeous photos. One photo, which would have been perfect, was ruined by Maui’s roadside garbage problem. They really need to work on that and the burned out cars painted happily everywhere.
After that we drove to the Iao Valley which was recommended to us by the bike ride tour guide earlier in the week. A small parking lot for a State Park but full of gorgeous views, lush woods, and roaring creeks. We spent a good portion of our day here and hiked around, found a cache with some newer cachers we happened to spot nearby, and ate our picnic lunches right in the creek.
After the Iao Valley we drove around and stopped at the Halekii-Pihana Heiau State Monument and cleaned out the car, the coolerbag, and rested while enjoying the gorgeous views.
