Kim and I went out to see the Little Memphis Blues Orchestra (caution myspace lameness) tonight at O’Gara’s Garage. Kim, of course, is a Taylor Hicks fan from American Idol. I personally think that the shit he sang on that show sucked donkey cock — I would have much rathered Katharine win as maybe she would have ended up with a Playboy spread.
Anyway, I purchased tickets early which were $14/ea with their “will call fee”. Bastards. We showed up after dinner at O’Gara’s Bar and Grill (which wasn’t all that great — especially their beer) and were greeted with missing will call tickets. A call to the manager and they magically appeared. The sk3 toting douchebag behind the counter seemed baked out of his gourd so we couldn’t expect much from him aside from the cat remote ownage of my sk2.
The show started about 50 mins late. Presumeably to give the douchebags who paid $200+ for American Idol tickets time to get from the Xcel Center to this shit venue. Boy was I excited to wait around that long. Seriously.
The music is very much up my alley. *Hard* blues and rockabilly. From the looks on the “fans” faces, they were not quite expecting the “Orchestra” to sound like a real blues band and instead, I assume, wished they were like the lame cover band Fox has for its world famous Idols. Sorry you old bats (most of the “fans” were 45+) this is a real band, not happy horseshit cover band that sings about rainbows and unicorns while Paula Abdul yells at Simon.
During the second song they asked the crowd if any were members of “Soul Patrol” and of course 100+ 45 year old bags screamed like 15 year old sluts with their panties in a bunch around their ankles as big QB Tom takes their virginity. “Don’t worry, we got what you’re looking for….” Yeah, great job guys, you are awesome without that sellout douche, you don’t need him other than to quarter-sell shit venues to old farts who don’t give a shit if *you* have any real talent or not.
Unfortunately for LMBO, these “fans” couldn’t have given a single shit if they were witnessing music history in the making. The only thing these people wanted was “Him”. Personally, I’m happier without him on stage, the fans are quiet and I can enjoy the music more without having to pretend their screaming isn’t there. I think my precious quiet time is slipping away :(
As we approached 11:30, it was getting apparent that the natives were getting *real* restless to see “Him”. They didn’t pay $14 to watch a bunch of unknowns sing good blues afterall. Nope! They want to see their hand crafted, Fox love child from hell. Several were talking, shaking their heads, and wandering around aimlessly. Completely lame.
After the 40 mins of playing (if that) they took a 35 min set break, during which the crowd was at a fevered pitch…. Would he come out with them?! Did we waste our time? Everytime the stage side door would open a huge group would move for the door to try and sneak a peek. You’d think there was a 25 cent peep show back there…
It was apparent to me that he would be coming out after the set break as two more TV cameras had setup shop, one controlled by a fellow geocacher Joelcam. The set opened with Tiny Dancer (and a shit rendition at that) with the keyboardist and a guy playing a flute to which I farted to express my displeasure.
After that horrifying display of butchery, Taylor came on and absolutely owned the show. It is strange to watch a great band get better just because of their lead guy. I have to admit that I never saw the energy he gave tonight on any of his Idol performances. Kudos to him for not being the complete “sell out douche” I claimed he was earlier.
Quote of the night, “Happy birthday sweetheart. Happy birthday everyone! Let’s just make it everyone’s fuckin’ birthday!”
After two or three songs, Taylor announced that he would take a quick break while LMBO played one of their new songs. I was surprised that even though Taylor said he’d be back after that one song that most of his “fans” took off. It was only 12:30! Perhaps yet again, even with him on the stage, they weren’t getting what they expected — lame Idol music instead of the rockin’ performance he gave tonight.
Overall I was impressed with LMBO and even Taylor Hicks but as you have read, I was *NOT* impressed with their “fans”. People who leave as soon as they got to see Taylor and who don’t give a shit about the good music being played — only that they were close to Fox’s cash cow star.
Sad. Real sad.
After the douchebags left the show started moving towards the self-written stuff I know from Kim’s collection of Hicks’ music. He played another two songs or so and introduced another Idol, Bucky Covington, who sucked ass on the show but did a great rendtion of Superstition tonight. I guess when you suck ass on Idol you’re only chance at stardom is to leech off real bands’ fame ;)
The early leaving douchebags missed out. Taylor was “going to be here all night”. They paid good money to see him sing for 30 mins when they could have for over an hour and a half? Furthur proof what “fans” they are. Perhaps they are just so used to seeing them on TV at little short clips that so much real singing, live, is too much to take? Heh.
The show wrapped up at almost exactly 2 AM and by the time I got home at 2:35 I realized swimming wasn’t going to happen this morning. I’m glad I’m starting at 10:30 this week…
I uploaded the photos from last night but with the bass making everything shake, most of the images are very blurry. My apologies but you can blame Kim, she won’t let me get a real digital camera ;)
See all the pictures from the LMBO/Taylor Hicks show here (camera).

I was there and I think you missed the boat. It was a fantastic show. They’re an amazing band and they were even more amazing with Hicks on stage. Who cares about the fans who didn’t understand the musical talent they were watching? Sounds like you didn’t get it either. I stayed for every moment. You and I experienced an amazing night of largely incredible music for $14. Unbefreakinglievable. I’m forever thankful.

It would seem to me that you are not a regular concert-goer. If you were, uou would realize that there are *tons* of excellent shows out there for less than $14.
I think you mean “intimate” and not “unbefreakinglievable”.

Bill,
Thanks for your rebuttal on MJ’s site. I am the one who alerted her to your interesting take on the show. I did know ahead of time that Taylor would likely be there, but I came to the show anyway knowing that was just a possibility. I will also come to their show should they venture north again. I think you are mischaracterizing the Taylor Hicks fans at the show by the few you saw leave. I know the type of woman you are talking about and I’m not thrilled that they also like Taylor Hicks’ music. I stayed until 2:30am and there were still lots of people at that time. My husband and I stayed back at the table because I’m not one to appear to be a groupie, so I had a good look at the crowd the entire night. I also took photos from my back position and don’t see a huge exodus as the night went on. I will admit to screaming when Taylor came on stage; does that make me a douchebag? (fyi - douching went out in the 70s, so I’m not sure that it is accurate to use that phrase). I just wish you would try to get to know people before making such harsh judgements in a public forum. I am trying not to judge you since I don’t know you.
Peace.

I am not mistaken, as you apparently are, by the numbers that left the show.
My husband and I stayed back at the table because I’m not one to appear to be a groupie, so I had a good look at the crowd the entire night.
We were the furthest back, in front of the soundboard, only beat out by those at the bar. Believe me, we had the best vantage point of the entire crowd for the entire show.
(fyi - douching went out in the 70s, so I’m not sure that it is accurate to use that phrase).
It’s apparent that you are aging and becoming out of touch. “Douchebag” is very in. It’s like PBR.
I just wish you would try to get to know people before making such harsh judgements in a public forum.
If by that you mean me properly identifying “Debs” a troll, she certainly deserved it as proven by her lame attacks and blatant disregard for the rules that those regulars apparently abide by.

Good comments on smarmy AI overproduced packaging. I’m not a big Taylor fan–could the manufactured song be worse? But he’s someone different with his band. Like he can say fuckin’ and be more real. The O’Gara’s Taylor is way more interesting and proficient than he was at the AI show. And frankly I could care less if grandmas and old bags like or dislike certain music. His band is good and he’s smart to keep them as his entourage and keep him in the real music scene. I’m afraid his CD will be full of more shit like Do I Make You Proud…don’t know how he can sing that with a straight face. Also, what do you think of Elliott? And yeah, okay, he looks like a troll. He had the best voice on that show and was the only reason I ever watched it in the first place. And so the only guy with a natural gift doesn’t get the record deal and it pisses me off. He bucked Clive Davis and I think it was a set-up all along. Everything’s money in music these days. Now Clive–he’s an old bag for sure.
So where were all the male douchebags over 45, huh?

Well, if Elliott were the one that won it all, I wouldn’t be here today dealing with a handful of self-righteous old bags from another website whining that they are being labelled as old.
I didn’t care for anyone on the show, minus the hottie, because frankly, they all fucking sucked. At least the hottie had great tits and an ass that was just begging to be spanked. Taylor, OTOH, was only on my TV because Kim was into him.
But while the hottie is on the fastrack to nowhere (just like every other fucking “Idol”), Taylor has proven to me that he is a real musician and not some overprocessed, Fox computer aided, piece of shit. He should be *thrilled* with that compliment.

sitting in front of the sound board with the sidekick…I remember you now. I walked past you several times. My husband and I were sitting in front of you by the large red horse sign (my aged mind forgets what corporate symbol that is).
Douchebag is impolite and an insult to women, no matter how “popular” it is. Who cares if it is popular to talk that way?
I wish you well, Bill. I just hope you learn to appreciate all ages of people some day.

I saw your picture on your site and I recogized you and your location (Mobil gas IIRC).

So is bitch, slut, whore, cunt, and skank — words I use frequently when deserved. Doesn’t make a difference to me. They’re just words — I suggest that you get over it, seriously.
I just hope you learn to appreciate all ages of people some day.
I appreciate people who deserve to be appreciated. Old bags acting like horny teenagers disrupting a show for the “normal” people deserve to be called out on their behavior and “appreciated” in the manner I did.

Hey Theresa - would love to see you pics on the concert. If everybody would step away from themselves for just a moment and get to know these guys….they have more spirit and soul as human beings then I have seen in a long time. Just sit back, not worry about the t-shirt, autograph, pic you might get and just enjoy. They will send something to your very core.
Peace

Further proof that “douchebag” is in: MadTV last night and ‘Til Death tonight. Wonderful uses of the word.
I love proving other douchebags wrong about the word douchebag. Mmm.
