Old Chicago’s Eden Prairie location is having a grand reopening on Monday morning which will be the first of a nationwide rollout of changes to their restaurants, menus and craft beer selection which will likely be similar to the one seen recently at T.G.I. Friday’s in Bloomington.
While the rollout is great, the best news it that Old Chicago is handing out 100 coupon books which provide those who receive one with 12 free pizzas ($25 value/ea) for a year to those who visit the newly revamped Eden Prairie location on Monday March 19th, 2012. All you have to do is be one of the first 100 people there before the ribbon cutting at 10:45 AM on Monday. Easy enough right?
Well for those of you who either will not or cannot make it to Eden Prairie for a chance to win “free pizza for a year”, we have a pretty cool contest sponsored by Old Chicago: a $25 gift card and t-shirt to one lucky person who likes the post on Facebook, RTs it on Twitter, or posts comments below.
Even though many of you already know the drill (as we’ve done this many times before) here it is again anyway:
- 1. Post a comment below to enter. Nothing fancy required. However if you note your favorite craft beer of recent then I’ll throw in an extra entry for you.
2. Like the Facebook post about this contest.
3. RT @SouthMetroNews’ tweet including the URL pointing to this post on Twitter.
Each of those three things are worth one entry each (well, unless you tell us about the best craft beer you’ve recently tried then it’s two for the first). You can only have up to four entries total regardless of how many reminders may be posted to any of the social networking sites or how many comments you write about your love/hate relationship with spicy stuff.
Even though you can only win the free pizza on Monday, this contest will run through Sunday 3/24/2012 at 11:59:59 PM and one lucky winner will be chosen at random by my patented SQL methodology. The winner will be notified by e-mail as well as a post on here, Twitter and Facebook.
—
So go ahead and comment on below, like/RT on Facebook and Twitter, and let us know what your favorite recent craft beers are. There’s also a poll, since this is a Sunday poll post there’s also a poll asking if you’ve ever entered a contest which required you to do something crazy like wait in line for what could be hours on end… Whatever you have to say about this one vote on the sidebar and then comment on below. After you do both of those things feel free to check out our expired polls in the archive or read through the previous posts about polls here.

Favorite craft beer is probably Two Hearted.
March 18th, 2012 at 8:29 am
Beer: I’ve moved away from a “Lonely Blonde” (Fulton) and I’m courting a “Farm Girl” (Lift Bridge Brewing, Stillwater).
March 18th, 2012 at 8:46 am
The beer drinker in the family likes Lagunitas Arrogant Bastard Ale (the oaked version) these days! Spendy, but a nice treat.
March 18th, 2012 at 8:47 am
Currently I’m hot on Glarus Brews. Pick me and I’ll share a few with you.
March 18th, 2012 at 8:52 am
Does a friend’s homemade beer count as craft? Because I like the ginger beer Zeke makes. Of course, I’m not currently allowed to drink beer. (But ginger beer is non-alcoholic, win!)

Sank, If the NG offering is “Spotted Cow” I’m with ya!

Myrcenary Double IPA
March 18th, 2012 at 9:50 am
My favorite craft beer is the Lakefront Cherry Lager. It’s Milwaukee based and such a small brewery I have only found it once or twice in MN.

Thanks for the giveaway. Fave craft beer-Two hearted.

Sal,
That is a Stone product and it sucks. Stop wasting your money.
Please exclude me from this drawing, or if I win, give the card to Dan N. He would probably enjoy Old Chicago food.

Lately, I’ve been partial to a Dogfish Head IPA. Hoppy goodness. And it always reminds me of the first time I enjoyed it overlooking the Atlantic on a visit back to my hometown of Virginia Beach…

I’ve discovered He’Brew Jewbilation 15. I am in love with this beer, but the Caffeinated One won’t divorce me so I can live in inebriated bliss.
March 18th, 2012 at 11:44 am
This contest is not fair since I have no idea what a craft beer is.
However, google tells me that my favorite should be 21st Amendment Bitter American.
March 18th, 2012 at 11:48 am
I like seeing all the beer suggestions here. I have about 43 beers left to try on my world beer tour card. Then my name will be on a tiny plaque that no one will ever see.
March 18th, 2012 at 11:49 am
Ack! I forgot my favorite craft beers! My top 2 right now are Surly Furious or Fulton’s Sweet Child of Vine. Depends on my mood.

For those who choose not to drink provide your favorite summertime beverage instead.

Remember, “For those who choose not to drink…”, when you first wake up that’s as good as you’re going to feel all day.

Diet coke over ice.

Is leinie’s red a craft beer? That.
March 18th, 2012 at 1:30 pm
I’d prefer a craft root beer over a craft beer anytime. But if you were forcing a beer in my pie hole right now, I’d prefer a Surly Smoke.
March 18th, 2012 at 4:08 pm
Lefty, I mixed up the brand name, but the “better half” in my house loves all Stone beer and Lagunitas beer. He says, in response to your comment “What does he drink, Hamm’s?” :)
March 18th, 2012 at 5:48 pm
Well, my summertime favorite drink is limon and lemonade, or a dark and stormy, or a straight up margarita-on the rocks-no salt, or limon and sprite if I want a little fizz, or raspberry vodka and tahitian treat (w/a lime twist), or raspberry vodka and lemonade.
This summer though, it will be strawberry lemonade, I’m thinking.

Did I miss something while in a sleep deprived state the past several months? Is Dm telling us something, or has she already told us and I completely missed it? Or am I reading too much into this?
March 18th, 2012 at 6:57 pm
Sal,
Stone’s products are ok, Lagunitas much much better. I just think that smoked ale from Stone is overdone and way too expensive for what you get.
I drink IPAs, mostly from Surly. That is an entry for Dan N, by the way.
Also, my grandfather worked at Hamm’s for almost 40 years.

Whit, I don’t think I’ve said anything on here. I don’t think I warrant my own “Hey, I’m having a kid!” post or comment thread or anything. But yeah, I’m alcohol free until august/september :)
March 18th, 2012 at 8:40 pm
I am drinking some Fat Tire right now. Can’t go wrong. Wen great with smoked ribs.
Sank – Second on the New Glaus beers. Haven’t had a bad one yet. It is a staple at the Wisconsin cabin. Haven’t seen it in Minnesota yet. Did you buy it locally?
March 18th, 2012 at 8:41 pm
OBB, you can only get them in WI.
March 18th, 2012 at 8:49 pm
Haven’t been drinking much craft beer lately, but I enjoyed Fulton Libertine when I had it a little while back. For a summer drink, my standard is the classic G&T.
And congrats, DM!

As I recall from my one trip to the Eagan location, Old Chicago has a decent (for a mass-market restaurant) selection of beer, but as for the pizza, well, I’d rather eat the take-out box.
Beers: I like browns, stouts, and porters.
March 18th, 2012 at 9:33 pm
Lefty, hubby says honors to your G-Pa, he’d rather drink a Hamm’s than a Surly, despite earlier joke that may have made you think otherwise.

Sign me up, and I guess Fat Tire.

Left Hand Brewing in CO; makes a nice IPA called Warrior.
Otherwise, Bells Two Hearted or Furious.

Sal,
I had dinner at Bachelor Farmer the other day, and we went downstairs to Marvel Bar for a quick drink afterwards. Interesting bar. Basically drinks only and no wine on the menu (though I think you can order it if you really want to).
Only one beer on the beer list. Can of Hamm’s. $3.00. It brought a smile to my face, and the next day you bring it up on this thread. Good timing.
Oh yes. Bachelor Farmer so lives up to the hype. Wonderful.
March 19th, 2012 at 3:42 pm
I enjoyed some fine brews from Madison River Brewing last week.
Lately I’ve been buying Bender with some frequency.
Had to have a couple of Guiness on Sat.
March 19th, 2012 at 9:01 pm
Lefty, I agree about Bachelor Farmer. Only been there once, but it was incredible! Need to get back there soon.
March 19th, 2012 at 10:48 pm
Please and Flat Tire of course
March 20th, 2012 at 8:11 am
I’ll be eating the shirt and wearing the pizza
March 20th, 2012 at 9:26 pm
Gotta love a chance at winning things! And I don’t drink any special craft beer…so I don’t have a favorite. I hear good things about the Flat Tire, but what would you consider a good choice for a newbie beer drinker (I’m more of a mixed drinks kind of gal)?
March 20th, 2012 at 9:32 pm
Pizza. Yum. Thanks.
March 21st, 2012 at 8:24 am
Jen H.
Actually it is Fat Tire, not Flat Tire. But that is actually not a bad stepping stone into craft brews. A better choice is Summit Extra Pale Ale. While not something I run to anymore, it will give you a nice sneak preview into what a flavorful beer with a bit of hoppy goodness that hopefully will lead you down the path that most craft beer drinkers follow.
Good luck on your journey! If your path leads you to the wonderful world of Furious, than you are the winner!
March 21st, 2012 at 9:26 am
Jen,
Sometimes people who are new to beer like sweeter beers like wheat beer. Blue Moon is available everywhere and is ok (made by MillerCoors, so not really craft). New Belgium, maker of Fat Tire, makes a good wheat beer “Sunset Wheat”. Otherwise Brown Ales taste good with everything and usually have a malty flavor over bitterness. Moose Drool is pretty easy to find, Bender, or Ring Neck Braun (Brau Brothers) are good. Or New Castle if you must. OR start with a style. Just ask what they have in a Wheat or Brown Ale. That way you’ll try new variations on something you’ll probably like and you won’t have to memorize all the names of the beers.
I personally don’t care for the toasted flavor that Fat Tire has, but lots of people like it.
I have been slowly coaching my wife’s taste buds to where she won’t drink light stuff anymore. She hasn’t climbed mount Furious yet. But we’ll see. She certainly likes(tolerates?) more hops than she used to.
On the other hand if the whole “Flat Tire”, “I only like girly drinks” thing was a joke on us, then you win. :)
March 21st, 2012 at 2:18 pm
I only like Fat Tire on tap, not in bottles.
What do you all think of Granite City’s offerings BTW?
Changing into my asbestos suit as I type…
March 21st, 2012 at 2:21 pm
LOL
March 22nd, 2012 at 9:02 am
I’m not one to get too down on what other people consume. I’d say the little bit of Granite City beer I’ve had was fine. It was neither spectacular or terrible and was consumed with a sandwich that also fit that description.
The biggest reason I end up there is that kids eat free at their buffet up to age 7.
March 22nd, 2012 at 9:30 am
Not much of a drinker. I enjoy a cold bottle of Yuengling on the rare occasions I do drink. Otherwise Arnold Palmers are my go to drink in the summer.
March 23rd, 2012 at 10:00 am
You don’t have to include me in the contest but I wanted to comment that since I have been reading your site, I was inspired to break away from Miller Lite and Leinenkugels. I enjoyed my first and second Two Hearted last night. It is a start!
March 23rd, 2012 at 10:04 am
DJ, that’s awesome!
March 23rd, 2012 at 1:53 pm
Since the wings didn’t work out maybe we should do a few different beer tastings instead.
“Pick the best Minnesota IPA”
“Pick the best Minnesota lager.”
“Pick the best Minnesota foo.”
Thoughts?
March 23rd, 2012 at 9:56 pm
I’m only picking a foo if it’s a fighter.
March 27th, 2012 at 9:12 am
