McHugh’s Bar and Grille is a bit out of the way for us but we’ve eaten here before and enjoyed it. Being that its warm and cloudless tonight Kim wanted to eat outside so we returned…
Last time I took the ribs and chicken but after our disappointing visit to the Rockin’ Ribfest in St. Paul last week I wasn’t about to go there again — it would do nothing but disappoint all those sucky rib places.
Last time we noticed a six-cheese dip that sounded yummy so we started off with that. It arrived with multi-colored tortilla chips and some soft pita chips with herbs. The cheese was ok but as usual nothing overly impressive.
Kim ordered Blu Burger with their huge waffle fries and seasoned sour cream and I decided on their Jerk Chicken with grilled veggies.
The blue cheese wasn’t melted on Kim’s burger so she she apprehensive. After a couple bites she claimed the burger and cheese were fine but their sauce wasn’t all that great (please note chipotle mayo does not go with blue cheese). My chicken was spicy with a sweet BBQ sauce and pepperjack cheese. It was decent but the BBQ sauce soaked bun fell apart quickly making a mess. The veggies were interesting (carrots, vidalia onions, snap peas, asparagus, tomatoes, zucchini, and button mushrooms). Not bad.
The service was a little slow out on the patio but pleasant. I’d return for a third trip to sit at the bar, play Golden Tee, eat some appetizers, and watch football. Maybe this fall.
