Out at the Xcel Energy Center for a Minnesota Swarm lacrosse game vs the Philadelphia Wings. I had originally wanted to go see Protocols of Zion at the Bell Auditorium but I think getting free tickets to see professional lacrosse in the luxury box trumps it. I didn’t even hesitate ;)
This was the first home game of the season. When we walked in our tickets’ barcode was coming up “disallow”. A shot of nervousness ran through me but then we were reassured that it was ok. A third scan was successful and we were handed a scratch-off game piece and a calendar each. The scratch-off pieces revealed a buy-one get-one free winner for everyone. Woot.
The opening ceremony was something to behold. Six cheerleaders, ten motorcycles from ARMCA District 23, and pyrotechnics. I swear they had “swarm” sound effects but I couldn’t tell if it was effects or the motorcycles. It was swarm sound effects! Lame.
An interesting thing to note is that nearly all of the Minnesota Swarm’s team is made up of Canadians. Hockey rejects? Heh. If they are rejects, they make up for it by having more body checks, fights, and stick beatings than the Minnesota Wild game we saw here last month.
After the first quarter, the “Bud Light Performance Team” came out, ran around, and went away. Very lame. At the half, we were “treated” to a Hastings’ high-school girls intrasquad game. Man, exciting I tell you!
Last in their division last season, the Swarm are looking for better themselves this year. Well, this game didn’t help them with a 15 to 11 loss.
The last 1 minute included a Swarm goal, three fights, and three guys in the penalty box. Good stuff.
