On Friday we received a package from Kim’s parents (for Christmas and our birthdays in one) from Montgomery Inn which included four racks of ribs, a bottle of BBQ sauce, bibs, wet naps, four pints of ice cream from Graeter’s Ice Cream.
Knowing full well we couldn’t eat all of that by ourselves we invited Chris and Laura over (Josh is skiing in WV) for dinner. They brought over beer and a bottle of wine (which was pretty damn good in my completely cheap and uneducated opinion), rosemary new potatoes, and green beans with almonds and garlic. I cooked BBQ baked beans, glazed carrots (made with Splenda brown sugar), cheesy biscuits, chicken for Laura, and the ribs for everyone else.
After dinner we watched National Treasure (the first one) on DVD and about half-way through we had some of the Graeter’s Ice Cream. I really don’t care much for hard ice cream but I do have a spot in my heart for Carvel’s vanilla soft-serve with sprinkles and Graeter’s Black Raspberry Chip which is just about the most fucking awesome tasting ice cream (behind Carvel) ever. I limited myself to only about a tablespoon but that was plenty to enjoy — especially with beer in my stomach ;)
Conversation during the evening went from the Green Bay game and Favre kicking ass to my current reading of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: A Year of Food Life (which is related to my reading of Plenty: One Man, One Woman, and a Raucous Year of Eating Locally.) and then onto the four of us of participating in Community Supported Agriculture through Harmony Valley Farm over in Viroqua, WI.
Another excellent evening with great friends! Thanks guys.

Bill,
Sounds like a great weekend. I am a little mad at you that you didn’t try my blackberry chocolate chip ice cream when you were at my house. I am pretty sure that it would have rocked Graeter’s. I’m also glad to see that you’re dipping your toe into the CSA world. I’ll be interested to see what you all think of that. You own everyone!
