Bought a new webserver (2.13ghz dual core with 8GB RAM) and moved everything over this morning at about 11:30. Please let me know if anything crops up that appears broken. As of right now everything seems to be working and the server is humming along quickly.

DaveF, backup hardware in case anything in this one fails. Although being that the drives in the new machine are all SCSI, the old drives I had are useless.

I don’t know… the googleads on this post are pretty much irrelevant to the content. I’m going to take that as the new server is working and it’s still Google’s fault.

Couple of things:
1. The webserver was experiencing some issues the other day after a 100+ day uptime since its original installation. It was randomly crashing and after being unable to determine any software cause, I shut it down, tore it apart and remade all the connections while replacing one of the two NICs. It has been up for 2 days and 13+ hours since. I still have a noisy case fan I have to look at but otherwise it seems stable.
2. I have created a commenter leaderboard (accessible on the sidebar) or through this link: http://www.lazylightning.org/leaderboard/ It is updated once an hour and all the columns are sortable. It only shows the top 50 commenters (by comment count) but you get the idea.
Provides rank (by comments), username, first comment posted date, most recent comment post date, the number of days between those two dates, comment count total, comment posting rate, and the estimated dates (based on rate so it fluctuates wildly) when a commenter will hit their 1000th and 2000th comment.

Today was fucking hell:
1. Server crashes for the 60th time this week.
2. Can’t get it to boot again.
3. Buy a new machine for $450 and go to get it and bring it home.
4. Machine refuses to boot.
5. Buy a different machine, return first, go to pickup second.
6. Drive from original server is fucked. Crashes new machine.
7. Begin restoring shit from backups and e-mail notifications for comments which weren’t in the backup.

If something is missing I’ll get around to restoring it. If this shit starts crashing on me I’m giving up the site. Full stop.
