Last week’s poll asked about shopping demand in Eagan and the rest of the South Metro. While the majority of people responded there are already too many shopping areas available, the most important thing to mention is that this is the third 0 comment post in 2012. There were no 0 comment posts in 2011 and only two in all of 2010. Impressively poor work on my part apparently.
This week’s poll is about newborns. I find them incredibly ugly, especially ones without hair. They look like horrendous little aliens and are usually screaming and making your life miserable while supposedly making it wonderful all at the same time. My kids have been cute from birth, of course–especially that they both had full heads of dark hair, but I saw plenty this past week that I wouldn’t have wanted to ever see again and that was without hearing them scream :)
Do you think babies are cute or ugly? Perhaps you don’t care? Did you think your own children were ugly after they were born? Ok, since you didn’t EXACTLY specify, I think all newborns who are born precociously are adorable (think hoofstock, marine mammals, chinchillas, even some non-human primates) … but, humans and some of the other species who are not (birds, rats, etc), well, I find them difficult to warm up to in that state. The IDEA of a human newborn is beautiful, and parents’ love creates beauty in their eyes regardless of physical reality.
That said, newborn humans really aren’t very cute initially. I remember our blond baby in those first weeks. We would creep up on his crib at night to check on him, and there he would be – if he was asleep, his head looked like a light bulb, and if he was awake with big dark staring eyes, he looked like an alien.
We loved him and thought he was beautiful and he did become a very cute baby/kid. The alien thing creeped us out for a bit, though!

Ugly until about 3 months, cute until about 4 years, ugly until puberty, then either cute or ugly depending on the child/adult.

C-section babies are defiantly cuter since their heads have not been deformed.
The one thing that does weird me out with newborns is all the random movements and twitches they make. It is like they are going through some sort of drug withdrawal.

The kids my wife gave birth too looked like lizards when they were born. But they got cuter once the nurses hosed ‘m off and patted them down. Then they were cute. Kinda. Got cuter as the day went on and by the time they were in 10 or 12 the cutefactor peaked and it went downhill pretty fast. Now they’re attractiveness is directly related to their disposition, just like me, and my wife.

BTW having been through this a couple times the first 3 months, as you may know, is a black hole. You just ahve to get through it. Glad I’m not having anymore kids.
