Growing up my mother used to offer me the opportunity to slather Vicks Vapo-Rub all over my chest when I had a cold and I would usually take her up on it. I always thought it worked well and while I have never really used it the way you should (in the shower I suppose) I continue to believe in the power of Vicks to this day.
Recently, we were over at Chris and Laura’s and they had a box of Puffs tissues and I noticed something different about them. At first I couldn’t quite place what it was about this particular box of tissues that was so comforting and cozy but suddenly that familiar tingle on the tip of my nose hit me like a flash… VICKS!
Puffs recently started combining Vicks with their tissues and I am a huge fan. I thought I was the only one who loved Vicks but it turned out that everyone (Josh, Chris and Laura, and Kim) all agreed that these were the best tissues ever. I knew I liked those people for some reason! ;-)
Yesterday, on my way home from work, the Costco Dayquil-alike, provided to me by a co-worker at noon, wore off and I was left in a near drunken state from cloudy head and stuffy nose. It’s strange but I get sick on this exact week 75% of the time ever since I was in HS (that’s as far back as I can remember). I called Kim and let her know that I wouldn’t be cooking dinner when I arrived at home and she prepped for my arrival with sweatpants, a sweatshirt, heating pad, glass of water and some EasyMac (how people can even eat that shit I’ll never know) and she took off to the store to pick up supplies for me.
After a nap, I awoke to the dog leaping off me and running for the door to the garage and found Kim holding a bag full of Saltines, chicken noodle soup, DayQuil, Vicks sore throat lozenges, a Vicks-like plugin device, and a box of Puffs laced with Vicks.
I took some of the Vicks laced Puffs with me to work today but spent the rest of the day with plain old Puffs supplied by the State which didn’t even have lotion! My nose and lips are now chapped and I’m whiny. I can’t wait for this shit to go away and I really hope it doesn’t continue into my four day weekend. I’m not really sure if I can take another TNT Law and Order marathon at 4 AM with episodes taped in the early 1990s which include appearances by such greats as Samuel L. Jackson and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
